foxes
just wondering how staffies are with foxes
we have one coming into next door after my chickens ....just wondering how George is likely to react if it comes into my garden
ive got fencing all around my garden but foxes after chickens are very persistent so chances are it could find a way in ...i was told that the smell of a dogs toilet is enough to keep them away but george is here and next door have a jack russel so its not working
im assuming George would have a go at one or at least chase it ...whats the probability of that turning George into being aggressive with other dogs or can they tell the difference ?
sorry if this is a silly question but ive been using George as a deterrent today - sending him out every half hour - just want to make sure hell come to no harm if the fox does get in.
thanks in advance

Re: foxes
No idea but its a very interesting question. Foxes seem to be getting more braver these days.

Re: foxes
I used to have Foxes in my urban garden an awful lot and they were a pest in more ways than one but since Flo decided to live with us I haven't seen a single one in the garden. I hear them screech but not seen them.

Re: foxes
They'll keep away from dogs in general. Both Stan and Holly have seen them and chased them but they disappear like cats.
Re: foxes
we used to have foxes in our garden but since we had tessa they have vanished. come to think of it so has all the rest of the wildlife............even insects

Re: foxes
Rio loves to bark at foxes and would give chase if we let him, but they disappear pretty quickly with him around!

Re: foxes
I have lived in a rural area all my life and am very used to foxes on my land. A fox will usually run if it spots a dog, but they are persistently scavenging for food so it doesn't deter them from coming back time
after time. (even bird food on a table) They do their 'courting' just after Christmas & January and
the young are born April time, so they will be about more than usual
at these times, especially when having to feed young.
My staffies have always attacked foxes when confronted and I had one boy
years ago who chased a fox and even went half way down a hole and
dragged him out. Not a nice thing to experience!

Re: foxes
Thanks for all the replies
my chicken run is covered at the back so a fox cant see in so what ive done is put a radio in there on talk radio hoping the voices will stop them coming into the garden
ive had bad experiences with foxes - the first one some years ago killed my whole flock , then i got Benji, a staffie cross , and didnt have any problems .
but 3 years ago one got in and tried to steal a hen from inside the run - i ran down the path like a woman possessed and it dropped the hen
then a year later my 2 roosters managed to fend one off - when i went out it jumped on top of my greenhouse to get away
so ive seen the damage they can do first hand - their canines are massive and covered in bacteria -don't want George getting bitten
but George is a big boy - twice the size of a fox - so its bound to want to get away from him
thanks for settling my mind
