I think this answers the question:

Yes. Foxes, wolves, coyotes, dogs, jackals, etc are all members of the family Canidae. The family tree further branches at the Genus level to Canis: Canis lupus (wolf), Canis latrans (coyote), Canis lupus familiaris (dog), Canis aureus (golden jackal), etc. All these members of Canis can interbreed and produce fertile offspring. This suggests we have incomplete speciation, since the hybrids are not sterile.

Foxes are more distantly related and cannot breed with members of Canis, including dogs. They can physically mate, but no offspring result. The red fox is Vulpes vulpes, and the Arctic fox is Alopex lagopus. Those two can hybridize and produce sterile offspring that are much bigger than either parent. The fur industry crosses them to get the color range of Vulpes and the dense thick fur of Alopex.

I love foxes, they are very neat looking. My horses killed one once, bashed its head in. I dunno whats wrong with my animals but they are very blood thirsty.
