Growing pains?
Hi everyone,
I have a 7 month old Staffy named Charlie. In the past month my husband and I have noticed he has trouble trying to stand up, hops a few times before walking/running normally and has a slight limp in his front right leg. My husband reckons his spine is out of alignment because it curves upwards from the belly to the tail. I have taken Charlie to the vet twice and they can't find anything wrong unless we xray him but at a cost of $300.
In the meantime saving up for it has anyone else has this problem with their pup? A friend suggested it's growing pains, Google say it could be Patellar Luxation. I'm getting grey hairs from worrying so much about my baby boy.

Re: Growing pains?
I would imagine a spine misalignment would be lateral, not vertical. If he's having trouble getting up and limping there's clearly something not quite right, perhaps one of his joints, so I'd get the xray done ASAP so that it can be rectified before any damage is caused. It may be growing pains which, I believe, normally resolve themselves, but that needs an xray to detect because it's in the cavity of the bones and not obvious from an external exam. And you will probably need pain medication in the medium-term.

Re: Growing pains?
It could be Patellar Luxation and the vet can normally feel for that if it's bad enough to cause an issue, it would also be noticable when walking too before it realigns. Not sure about the miss aligned spine theory but I guess the only real way of finding out is x-rays unfortunately.

I'd get the xray as well. If he is still a pup you may also want to look into vet insurance. They won't cover preexisting conditions so the earlier the better

Re: Growing pains?
Does he do a lot of running when he's out ? Baxter is 8 months old and recently had a limp and stiffness in his right shoulder, he does a lot of running when he's out, chasing balls, sticks and birds etc. we just lead walked him for a week so and it seems to be ok now

Re: Growing pains?
My bruce was doing this on his right hind leg.
Got a xray done and found out it was luxating patella.
Vet told us to give him a joint supp and that as help.
The vet scored him a grade 1 witch doesnt need surgery.
But will probs need it later on.
So best bet is to rest him until you can get xray done.
Other wise you dont no wat damage it could be doin.
Thanks
