soiling in crate
my 7 month old bitch is kept in a crate over night ,and each morning she has messed and wet in it ,in the day time she goes outside in an enclosed area ,no trouble and if playing in the lounge will go to the back door to be let out rarely does she have an accident . so how do I get her to stop soiling in the crate ,perhaps she is to young to hold it till I get up .although I have got up at 6am and she has already done it ,I feed her at 11am and again at 5pm .should I change this .thanks in advance for your help .
Re: soiling in crate
She should easily hold it that length of time so she must be associating the crate with going to the toilet. I'd recommend getting up half way through the night for a couple of weeks or even a month to let her out. That way she should get out of the habit of doing it in her crate. During this period wash her bedding thoroughly so there's no hint of smell remaining. If she does have an accident remove the bedding immediately and replace it with fresh stuff, and of course don't scold her, just ignore her and put her back again after.

Re: soiling in crate
As above, it might be best getting up in the middle of the night to let her out. And definitely do a thorough clean of the crate. White vinegar does well at getting rid of the smell

Re: soiling in crate
thanks , I now only put paper down at night ,saves blanket washing . but I'm going to try her out of the crate in a new basket with a new blanket and paper on the floor .lets see what happens now .
Re: soiling in crate
How big is her cage? If she's in a large one, partition it off. They only need enough room to stand and turn.
We feed at 6am weekdays and about 7:30 weekends and 4 or 5pm. She 'goes' within half an hour of waking, again around lunch time and one on her evening walk.
It seems a strange feeding pattern you have. Feeding twice within 6 hours or so, then nothing for 18 may be your problem.

As above you will need to space the feeding time out keep to regular times and stick to these times first thing in the morning wash the bedding in soap powder and water, i wouldnt feed my dog beyond 6 oclock it avoids upset stomach.
