firstly I apologise of this is in wrong sector.
ok so where dp I start, the other day I noticed bulleys tummy looked swollen and is hard to the touch he then started drinking excessive amounts of water and weeing alot. however now he cant keep fluids downcor food, cant get up and walk or wee or poo. i cant see whats caused this as no change in diet and doesnt appear to be in any pain. has anybody experienced this if so what was wrong? so worried (vets in morning)

Re: so scared for my boy
sounds like a blockage. my brothers dobe is a bugger for it and has passed through gloves, socks and even bits of tennis ball before that has given him grief. in this case you are right to seek vets advice as they have the tools to find out what is the problem. fingers crossed or you both x

Re: so scared for my boy
Hope he's ok - personally I'd have been down at the vets the same day; it sounds either like a blockage or bloat, both of which can be very dangerous if not treated immediately.

Re: so scared for my boy
Get a second opinion... lass in our bikejor groups dog went lame two weeks ago and vets said best to PTS but she didnt and went to another vet who said wait...guess what he is now weight bearing and wagging his tail like mad. dogs are hard as nails. dont loose your guy on one opinion and above all trust your gut instinct. sad as it seems some vets only see as far as the insurance will pay out. i have a special sentance to describe them from a long line of experiance, except the one i have now of course.. and that is money grabbing, lazy cant be arsed unless its worth lots of cash, useless f****** ***s that prey on people in distress. harsh but experiance proves me right

Char, I am shocked at how quickly this all happened. There are no words I can offer to ease your pain just now. He had a wonderful life with you and though it won't ease your pain now, you will look back and remember the good times. In my thoughts

Re: so scared for my boy
He was obviously very ill and at least isn't suffering anymore, you're bound to feel stunned and shocked at this happening so quickly but serious illness often works that way. There aren't strong enough words to say to help you only that our thoughts and love is with you at this time. Anyone else in this situation would have had to do the same thing so don't be too hard on yourself. He had a wonderful family that loved him and made his time feel so valued and wanted, that's all anyone could ask for. He's part of you now anyway so you'll never be the same again. All the best, Ian and Stan.xx
Re: so scared for my boy
thank you. really wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. never felt a pain or guilt like it. I miss him so so much.I swear I can hear him breathing, or licking his bowl. im glad hes not suffering but i still cant believe hes gone :'(

Oh my goodness! I've only just seen this. How incredibly awful for you, so so sad. Sleep pain free, lovely man.

Re: so scared for my boy
Don't worry that's perfectly natural, you're still dealing with the whole situation, the results you've had to come to hard terms with will knock you into tomorrow for a while, you're suffering from shock just as anyone would after being involved in any other terrible disaster, it's all normal. You'll question everything wanting to find an alternative answer and therefore alternative result, anything to put things right again. The truth is i'm sad to say is that he was too far ahead in his illness. Dogs are masters at hiding their aches and pains and because these things are internal it's often too late by the time we realise there's a problem.
We had a German Shepherd once called Bruce and he died from a lung tumour that burst one evening in front of me, he was only 5 years old and otherwise in his prime. I was about 10 at the time and never forgot it. Whatever the age of your dog when it's their time we always want a little bit more. It hits you hard every time and you may question whether the pain of losing them is worth it, but it will ease in time and you may or may not feel like having the tap tap of paws around the home again, it's different for everyone. Always be very proud of your time together and what you gave eachother, In time the things he did will make you laugh and cry at the same time. Give yourself time. Ian and Stan xx

means alot, I still have kaiser to care for which at the moment is the reason I get up. sometimes I loot at him and laugh, sometimes I feel like loving him is a betrayal to my boy. but he knew no dog could ever replace him or even worthy of being in the same category. im sure in time i can look at his videos and photos and smile not sob

Re: so scared for my boy
How sad and what a shock to lose him so quickly. There's no grief without love and no right or wrong way to deal with it. In time you will be able to look at videos and pictures with fondness and a smile. There will also times when it'll hit you fresh and be raw all over again. This is a great place to talk about your sweet boy to empathetic ears that understand whether its a couple of days, weeks or even months sometimes you just need to share a memory.
