Night time bikejor
First time out with the guys at night... seat of the pants stuff. frozen areas were like concrete and the not frozen bits were quite frankley...very cold and sticky. me and the bike got a real pounding but the dogs loved it. typical we saw deer on the home straight but they fell into line pretty well considering. its quite a big difference to running in the day as the dogs were a bit more skitty and more in hunt mode but still did me proud with the direction commands. think i may be doing more of this. cam doesnt pick up the light so well but thats a cree 7200lm light and the light given off was amazing.

Re: Night time bikejor
Lol I didnt see it at first but we suddenly speeded up I knew something was wrong. then the ears went up and off to the right they went. thing is that if they saw that while walking they would have dragged me and spent ages trying to get at it. just shows what a different frame of mind can do to behaviour. on a bike your not directly connected and you have to rely on verbal commands but they do it so well becuase they are working and doing a job. Today we saw a herd of deer while walking and i spent a good five mins having my arms wrenched so bad it hurt and i thught i was going to loose grip. So although bikejor is fun I'm also learning so much on the dog psyche while doing a job, it really is fasinating and very rewarding.

I'm amazed that you managed to avoid all the trees let alone the fallen ones ! You can really see when they pick up on the deer, such a change in pace.
Another great video Nathan

Re: Night time bikejor
reality is it looks scarey but it isnt. i trust the dogs 110% and when they work they do it well. staffies have a big heart and drive. they may well be husky staffcross but the drive is def staffy.

Re: Night time bikejor
Thinking about it it's not much of a spectator sport unless you just want to stand at the start finish line lol and that could get boring.

Re: Night time bikejor
Old thread but I was interested to see what Nita would do. I didnt have the kit but went out to a back field, helmet on, got Nita in front on an extendable and held on (yes I know before anyone says lol) and we started off slowly, just walking but she kept in front so I told her to go and away we went. Did about 100m, turned around and back and she loved it. Only looked back twice but she kept running. Me, I was knackered (been a couch potato past 6 months) and we managed to hit 15mph. So, now I know she likes it, time to buy the proper gear.

Re: Night time bikejor
So glad you enjoyed it, it is a real blast and the night runs are crazy over the day runs, something just pricks the inner wolf in them. you can get the lines from www.k9trailtime.co.uk i use the arctic wolf lines and would recomend an arm to keep them out of your front wheel for that i use rowerland bikejor arm. the best bit of kit you will ever buy though is the harnesses, i went custom as the dogs are odd shaped as a cross but someone like kerry hooner from hooner supplies will be able to set you up with a good one. if you can get to a show/event the trade stands will allow you to try before you buy. will be glad to help on anything else you have a question about, your dog will love you for itHaizum74 wrote:Old thread but I was interested to see what Nita would do. Re: Night time bikejor
It was indeed a lot of fun. I've ordered one of these http://www.innerwolf.co.uk/bikejor-starter-kit-with-non-stop-line-harness-short-shoulder-pull.html to start with but I've bookmarked the link you have included, cheers. I'm really looking forward to getting started, not only for Nita but for me getting my fitness back too. I posted a message in the chat section asking you a few questions and Mia put it in the staff section so while I get notifications I can't actually view any comments. I bought a fixie last year and hardly used it, seems I may have to go to a decent mountain bike now as the ride was a tad hard on the body lol
