Crikey, he ate that fast!!! How can I slow him down? Empty Crikey, he ate that fast!!! How can I slow him down?

It's been a week now that Scooby has been on raw and so far, he is loving it... almost too much though haha

A thawed out chicken wing that was taking him 15 minutes to get through as he worked out what it was and being very careful with it, now only lasts about 30 seconds!!

Last night I gave him two chicken wings and he literally picked them up - quickly crushed them up in his mouth before swallowing whole!! It happened so fast, I was not ready for it.

Anyway, later that night, he had diarrhea (the first time he's ever had that) and this morning, he went outside, had a wee but nothing else - I'm expecting bones to be coming out at some point.

He's well in himself and doesn't seem like anything is bothering him but I am concerned a little.

Can I feed him frozen chicken wings? I'm thinking that this will slow him down a lot more.

I know chicken wings are popular but personally I wouldn't use them.

The bones might take a couple of days to pass through. I'd keep an eye on your dog, though, diarrhea is a sign of constipation which could mean a blockage. If he still has not gone properly by tomorrow I'd check him with the vets.

Dogs will only chew as much as they need to swallow the food so can sometimes wolf things down too quickly. Bane quite often does this and ends up bringing it all back up again, just to have another few chews on it before swallowing again! Laughing So don't be surprised if this happens ocassionally too sick

He should be fine, just keep an eye on him. Maybe keep the bone a bit lighter for a day or two until he returns to normal.

You can feed any of the meat frozen. Most of Bane's meals are half frozen as he is a bit of a scoffer too Smile Hows he getting on? Except for loving it by the sounds of it Big Grin

All back to normal! Phew Smile

He didn't go at all yesterday so I was a bit worried he was blocked up but he seemed fine in himself - infact he was constantly looking in the kitchen for more food.

I didn't give him anymore bone yesterday, just a pack of beef & kidney mince.

Then this morning, he went and all was good thank god.

I'm thinking I just need to start feeding him more now to be honest - I give him a 454g bag of mince (varies from day to day) along with a chicken wing and maybe an egg but he is exercised every single day for a couple of hours.

His poos are tiny for what he eats and he hardly ever drinks so he must be making the most of what's going in - which is clearly a good thing.

I'm picking up a fairly large order from Landywoods later this week so I'll start upping the food intake slowly.

He's loving it though - every meal is different and as soon as he hears that tupperware container crack open from the fridge he is straight in there jumping up to the counter haha - he never did that with kibble anyway.

Glad he is back to normal Smile The kidney and beef may have helped things along as they are a bit richer. And tell me about it, our neighbours have to use carrier bags for their dogs sick

How much does he weigh? I think we have settled on about 700g per day for Bane now and that seems just about right.

It's nice to see when they get excited about their meals Smile

Well, since he went onto raw he lost almost 1kg back down to 17kg, and to be honest, I could start to see his ribs ever so slightly when moved around.

I could also tell that he was not completely satisfied after his meals - he would stay in the kitchen sat next to his bowl licking it every now and then and watching me prepare my own food intensely haha (he never did that before).

So I've increased his intake from 1 bag (plus chicken wing or egg) to 1.5bags (plus chicken wing or egg) and will see what changes it makes over the next couple of weeks.

Like I say though, he is taken out over the Chase every single day and is constantly running full pelt chasing the ball, birds, other dogs haha so he definitely needs more than the recommended 2% I reckon.

It does take a little while to get the amounts right. Just keep an eye on his weight and if he continues to look a little thin, up the food.

It sounds like he gets a really good run so it would be no surprise if he needs more than 2-3%. All dogs are different and they do need quite a bit more raw food than they previously had in biscuits Smile
