Bit worried
On Vins walk today we were going through the wooded area of our walk, after diverting as saw a big black Lab coming up the other path. They must have decided to follow as I always stop and check where Vin is and have my eyes peeled. I walked a few paces and turned to see where Vin was, the Lab was just stood over Vinnie and must have appeared whilst Vin was sniffing, hence to say no owners around I could tell by his stance what was going to happen his hackles were up and growling face to face with Vin to at whoich point Vin went for him! I was shocked but managed to get Vin on lead without being bitten! I am worried now as Vin is always so good with other dogs.
Hence to say the 2 men appeared ages after and remained following me with Lab still off lead!! at one point he was running towards us growling so having Vin on lead changed route! do I need to worry do you think

Suki is great with other dogs but does want to have a go at the odd one. I wouldn't worry too much

Re: Bit worried
Yep carry on the same as usual. I think you'll find it was simply a defence reaction.

Re: Bit worried
What a shame about the walk but hopefully Vin will be alright Maybe it was just a defensive thing!

Re: Bit worried
Definitely a defence thing. As Oz is DA I can't sense his body language and if a dog comes charging at him he goes into defence mode but if they are not really interested then he is much almer

Re: Bit worried
It is quite scary when this happens, did you say anything to the other dog owner ?
Vinnie probably just took the staring from the lab as a challenge as any other dog would too I'm sure.

Re: Bit worried
I think the key's in your wording 'the Lab was just stood over Vinnie' - I'm not surprised he snapped.
Glad you're feeling less worried now.

Re: Bit worried
well there is no fault on your behalf
I will be honest that most of the posts I read about these sutiuations I NEVER read about the off leash dog beign a staffy or a bully breed dog its always fluffy we things .. german shepards, labs etc
again its just shows that all dogs can be as bad as what they make staffs etc out to be

Re: Bit worried
Peppa is very good with other dogs but if attacked she will retaliate but it almost never happens I wouldn't worry about vinnie and keep your routine.

Re: Bit worried
Ah Inez sorry to hear that. It's nothing to worry about though I'm sure. The dog was standing over Vin so that would trigger any dog's defensive actions. He was invading Vin's space. It's perfectly normal for Vinnie to react and say "hey, get lost matey boy!". I have to be very careful with Axl and dogs he doesn't know as you already know because if a dog did that to him he'd go loopy. Vinnie was just telling the other dog no, as dogs do

Re: Bit worried
Aww vinnie was just sticking up for himself and possibly protecting you labs can be quite confrontational. Blooming irresponsible owners if they know theyre dogs aggressive keep it on a lead.
