Barking... Distress? Empty Barking... Distress?

Post by Nalabala Tue Nov 04 2014, 00:40

My pup is not much of a barker. Even when other dogs growl or bark at her she tends to stay quiet. The ony time I've heard her bark is occasionally at home when we are in the kitchen and she wants our attention but even that has pretty much stopped with training. Today we were out at a cafe and I had her tethered to the table as always. A child started crying (behind a door near us, couldn't see it) and she starts barking and looking up at me. I couldn't stop her until the crying stopped. Anyone else have similar experience? Why could this be?

I guess she barked as she couldn't see where the crying noise was coming from so couldn't associate it with anything. Rocky gets stressed when he hears children crying too, he likes to know all is OK with them.

Yes, Madge gets really upset if children are crying near her - keeps looking at me to sort it out - confirms that they really are "Nanny" dogs to me.

I agree with the above comment, my Flo only really barks if I'm play fighting with my lads. We all have to stop and reassure her that it's not real bless her.

Awwww bless all your pups. That's so sweet. Makes sense and I can only hope that my girl was reacting this way for the same reason.

agree, could be that upon hearing something in distress she is just tring to alert you to it. being a female she will also have a stronger maternal instinct.

They do seem to pick up on crying noises a lot! Try sitting in another room and make a crying noise, see if she comes to you! Bane is straight away on your face trying to lick you better Laughing
