Barking
When we rescued Flo we thought she didn't have a voice but little by little she got more vocal and is none more than when we go to get a new toy out of her "New toy" box. Now, she isn't at all vocal when chasing squirrels up the trees like other dogs so now I'm wondering, is she unique in this or are Staffies generally a quiet breed ?

Re: Barking
Ian thats so funny i was walking Koda this morn & thinking how to write a similar post because evry 2nd house has a dog that bark vigoursly and Koda has never ever ever barked back! He doesnt bark at home either unless A) he wants inside, B) he hears someone at the door. Interested to know if others are barkers or not too.

Re: Barking
Our guys do bark a bit when another dog walks past (they'll stop when asked) and they make and absolute racket when playing but otherwise no, they're not barky dogs. Full of funny noises, but not that much barking.
Thinking about it, in the kennels a lot of the staffies don't bark. Some do, not surprisingly given the environment, but that are some who just stand there quietly.

Katy barks a lot at home, either when she hears something or sees someone out the window!!! The postie she will bark like crazy at as she loves him Any dog she doesn't like, whether we are at home or in the car When she wants something or our attention she will bark Would love it if she didn't!!!!

Re: Barking
Samba has only barked a handful of times over the 4yrs since ive had him. As like Koda when we go for walks many dogs start barking from there backyards or even inside there homes, & Samba couldn't care less. Samba does do a happy howl?? or something like that, which i absolutely lovvvve when he does it.

Re: Barking
Duke usually barks if he gets a new toy and is excited, but apart from that he's usually very quiet, after all you cant bark much when you are busy chewing

Re: Barking
My little girl staffie is the quietest dog you could ask for until first thing in the morning when she is waiting for her biscuit, as I walk down the stairs she starts bouncing around the room like a kangaroo, and barking and making hell of a noise till she gets her custard cream.
Its an excitement thing I think

Re: Barking
Dodger is a barker! When he plays with his boomer ball he chases it, barks like mad at it, then chases it again. This goes on until I put it back in the cupboard.
He also barks at pigeons, no other birds, just pigeons. The one thing that never makes him bark is a knock at the door! He is a very vocal dog all the time and I love the strange staffy "talking" sounds he makes, I find it hilarious, but I'm not so so keen on the staffy whine!

Re: Barking
Nita only barks when my friend comes round and she gets excited to see her, apart from that she is quiet, although she chirps like crazy when going to the park and will growl on a night if she wants to warn me of something she has heard outside.

Re: Barking
So far from reading these replies it sounds like they all make a noise for their fave toys or expecting a treat which is similar for my Flo.
The talking at you seems to be fairly common too, again, Flo does this if we've left her home alone for the evening or I've been away for work.
Isn't it odd that Dodger seems to buck the trend and is very vocal

Re: Barking
Milo barks at the postman and occasionally when someone walks past the window & makes him jump. He doesn't bark at other dogs but loves to wind the two little yappers up next door that go ballistic at hime when he runs up and down the garden banging into the fence lol. He also does the staffy barky talky growlee thing with the chickens through the gate when he gets pecked on the nose lol. It must hurt him but he doesn't seem to mind. It's such a funny sound.

Rio barks during play, at cats, at dogs, at garden ornaments that take him by surprise Although he's more gremlin than dog, so not a great example
