Advice please.
Hi all I'm new here. I have had a staff in the past but that was about 20 years ago. X anyway I have been looking at getting a lovely new baby. Been to visit etc. anyway we have now just been told that the pup and the whole litter have grade 1-2 heart murmurs. I don't know what to do as never heard of this being a common problem in staffs before xx
What would you do??? I'm so torn as I've had a cuddle now lol x

Thanks. I have been researching it lots. He is only 6 weeks at the minute. I just didn't know if it would be a big risk taking the dog. To then have a lot of heartache for my family a few months down the line. If you know what I mean. X my heart Is defo ruling my head at the minute so just thought I'd look for an outsiders opinion. Re: Advice please.
i would say do as much research in to it as possible before making a decision, may be even give a local vet a call and ask their advice, did the breeder say if the parents had any health checks done before breeding them?

Re: Advice please.
No just the grandparents had the usual health checks. Like cataract and hip one x
I just didn't know if it was unusual for the whole litter to have it bar one pup. Plus I also wondered if the pups could have been a bit overexcited with being out at the vets or that they may be having a growth spurt. I will check with the vet. We have been to a vet so everything's in place for when pup comes xx

Hi & Welcome from Flo and me
I'm not sure what I would do to be honest as my heart would probably win over. I guess you would be best to ask a vet about ongoing problems etc. Hope you get the right answers and we get to see some pics

Re: Advice please.
Hi and welcome
We took on Harrie and she had a hernia this is not a big issue but could have meant surgery.
We did a lot of research online and spoke to 3 or 4 vets just to get a variety of opinions.
We negotiated a new price for Harrie based on possible medical costs and the point of buying a dog with a medical issue.
For us it was a good choice 5 months later she dosnt need surgery
we have a great dog and I saved a few$$$$.
Good luck
Riv

Hi and welcome to the forum from Rocky and me
I would also be asking for as much information before taking the pup on, as you may be looking at some expensive vet bills in the future. i'm sure this is an issue that could be lived with and worked around though, good luck.

My springer spaniel has a level 3, what happens is it gets worse over time, and eventually the vets will give you medication for the problem
