Argos Insurance Renewal
So it has come to that time I was dreading! Bane's insurance renews in November!
We claimed a few hundred pounds for all his skin tests and allergy bits so I was expecting the price to be higher...we were paying about £19 per month last year and it has increased to £25 per month now
Is there much point in trying to haggle a lower price? I'm still a bit baffled by insurance so will have a look around anyway just don't want to switch if it means losing cover for his skin. I think we have it under control but you never know!

Re: Argos Insurance Renewal
Most insurance companies will not cover a pre existing condition, so you would either have to admit that he has a skin condition to any new insurance company in case it should flare up again, or bite the bullet and go with the renewal, it may be worth trying to haggle though.

Re: Argos Insurance Renewal
I agree it is a load of crap until you need to claim - Tesco' have been brilliant for us, paid out up to the max £3000 for op for Murphy and paid for hydrotherapy which they dont all pay for. Yes, the premium went up but I didn't think it was excessive for the peace of mind.

Thats the unfortunate thing about insurance they can charge what they like - because they know we need it Xx

Re: Argos Insurance Renewal
Wendy if you don't mind me asking did the premium go up much after that? Argos have been very good I'm just a little worried that it is going to increase every year and he is only just 1 so we have a lot of years for it to go up! :/

Re: Argos Insurance Renewal
Emma, I think about £5 per month but Murphy was already 10 and it does increase each year as they get older anyway. We claimed for Madge (aged 4) last year about £400 and her premium only went up £1 per month this year. So I think you should expect it to go up every year a bit but more if you claim; most insurers will exclude previous conditions although I think some will not do this if you are paying extra for a "premium" type policy. Hope this helps

Re: Argos Insurance Renewal
Thanks Wendy! I think we must have claimed about £600 last year and the monthly amount has gone up by £6. I've been reading over the new insurance documents and they've included a whole load of extra bits too that we didn't have the year before so maybe I can get rid of those to bring it down again!

Re: Argos Insurance Renewal
I too queried Argos renewal price. Cheekily as had £5k payout over the last year for TPLO and floating patella. Eventually settled to renew as life time cover continues. Lucky I did had to make a new claim for £400 within 2 months of renewal. Must admin Argos have been great and payout within a week.

Re: Argos Insurance Renewal
interesting that this has just come up again, our Murphy was pts last year so just Madge at the moment. Tesco renewal quote this month increased from £17 to £25 ! Only one claim for her about £250 this year too. So looked around and decided to move to John Lewis - £18 for increased cover (£3k to £7.5) and travel cover plus this policy allows for claim to carry over to following year(s). Now I know this will go up next year as we got a 20% first year discount, but believe the cover provided could be worth it. Funny thing is both Tesco and JL use Sun Alliance as underwriters.

Re: Argos Insurance Renewal
Peta: Yes they have been really good for us too! Just wasn't expecting such a price hike.
Wendy that's just crazy! Did you have to claim for an on going thing with Argos? And will it be covered with the new John Lewis policy? Maybe it will be worth shopping around this coming year if it goes up again.

Re: Argos Insurance Renewal
Always good to shop around, sometimes if you quote a competitor's price they will reduce to it; but this year Tesco was just not playing, hence the move. Madge has no ongoing conditions so hopefully the move will benefit. We see lots of reviews and comparisons on the amount charged for the insurance; it would be good to see comparisons on claims paid (somehow!)

Re: Argos Insurance Renewal
My niece got caught a bit recently as she'd been with Argos and then her premium doubled so she went to a PDSA advert and signed up to them but there's a gap between changing and so her vet wants a bill of £300 odd for dental work last week but apparently it's grey area and the insurance people don't want to cover the treatment. This was for her cat btw. I got Stanley insured as of today for £267. via pet plan.
