Pet Insurance Renewal
Have been with PDSA insurance since Alfie was a puppy and at £14 per month thought I was getting a not bad deal, however PDSA is now underwritten by Zenith and low and behold the policy has now gone up to £29.86. So when phoning them today to ask how on earth they came by such a hike, I basically got nowhere.
So given the fact Alfie had his Mastcell Tumour removed in January, I take it I would require to declare that as a pre-existing medical condition to which some insurers won't cover me for should anything of a similar treatment be required in future.
Does anyone of any insurance company that will cover pre-existing medical conditions?
Regards
Dee
PS BTW Alfie is back to his normal self and is none the wiser of his op in January.

Re: Pet Insurance Renewal
Again not sure but will have to go through a similar thing in June with my girl. Could strangle my vet for diagnosing her leg problems right in between insurance dates !

Re: Pet Insurance Renewal
Hello! Biscuit had to have a malignant melanoma removed before I adopted her, and when I tried to get insurance with pet plan they said they providing she doesn't have any more within a 2 year period they MAY consider covering her for lumps/tumours after this point. However, within the 2 years they had hiked my premium up by over £15 (typical of many insurers) so I switched to Animal Friends, who again, has said that if within 2 years it hasn't returned they may consider cover.
Luckily for me, she hasn't had any troublesome lumps since!

Re: Pet Insurance Renewal
I have posted this on another thread but thought it may be of use on this topic as well
I did'nt renew my insurance for Stella last October.
She had been insured all her life with Saga who were brilliant. Paid out without problems including two major leg ops. numerous lump removals and skin scrapes for her allergies. Also arthritis treatment.
As your dog gets older premiums rise and when they reach 7 they are classed as mature (nonsense). An increase each year, and last year's
renewal came in at £63.50 per month plus £75 excess per condition within the policy year PLUS 13% extra anything over the £75. Phwww!!
She had lifetime cover which she needed with her arthritis.
I worked it out by saving £65 per month in a savings account, and buying her meds direct over the internet, this is much cheaper. My vets charge me for a prescription but internet prices are half the cost that the vet charges.
I know that health problems may arise in the future, but Stella is 13 now and I don't think she would survive any major surgery. I decided to take that risk.
On a side note, Stella had her 3monthly check up this morning at the vets and passed with flying colours. £46 for check up and prescription. Paid out of her savings!! Big Grin

Re: Pet Insurance Renewal
TBH honest and I know Rach mentioned they might consider it, if it came down to it no insurers will consider covering for pre-existing conditions. x

Re: Pet Insurance Renewal
Hi Dee, insurance can be a nightmare to say the least, I don't know of any that would cover pre existing conditions but might be worth having a look on line or even emailing some to find out if they would do it. Also might be worth having a word with your vet to see if they can suggest anyone.
