Feeding Advice - Wainwright's Chicken/Mixer
Hi!
We recently started feeding Fritz on Wainwright's Adult Dog food with Chicken (400g tins). We tried him on Nature Diet before but he refused to eat it (we tried several flavors; salmon, lamb, chicken... but no luck) :/ so we fed him Butcher's Tripe Mix for a while (which I know is appalling food).
The feeding guidelines for Wainwright suggests 1 1/4 - 2 tins a day for dogs 12-25kg. We've been giving Fritz approximately 1 1/2 tins a day with some dry food mixed in - Is this the correct amount? Last time he was weighed at the Vets he was about 21-22kg.
I'm also looking for a decent quality mixer to add to the Wainwright's. Any suggestions? Also, what is the correct ratio for wet food/mixer for a dog weighing 22kg? I was planning to do 1/2 tin + 200g mixer per meal, so 1 tin + 400g mixer a day.
Ta' for the help & "woof" from Fritz.

Sorry cannot really advize as we don't feed wet and dry food. Is the Wainwrights a complete food ?
Rocky has Barking Heads kibble with just a little piece of cooked, cooled chicken added with some carrot.

Hi Kathy,
http://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/wainwrights-adult-chicken-and-rice-12-x-395g
I believe Wainwright's is a complete food. We want to add a good-quality mixer so that we can still feed him a nutritional and healthy diet whilst being more cost-effective, as we're on quite a tight budget.

I feed Flo Wainwright's wet. Half a tin for Dinner topped up with Kibble, just kibble for Breakfast.

Pixee is on the wainwrights trays. Not soft, not wet, not dry just firm and she is a fussy eater, but loves those. I do however give her for a change now and then, dry chicken, liver vegs.

Guidelines are exactly that; only guidelines. They'll give you a rough idea of how much you should feed but from my experience, every dog is different and you just have to keep an eye on their weight to determine how much food to give them.
For example, in summer, I was giving Zeus a certain amount of raw food based on how much exercise he was getting (2 x park runs). However, as soon as the weather start getting bad, his 2 x park runs, turned into 2 x walks, and in turn, he ended up putting on weight and also start poo'ing 5/6 times a day (he was obviously eating too much and not burning enough), so over the past month, I've been messing around with different weights of food which keeps his weight consistent and I've only just got it right.

Sorry but why is Butchers Tripe mix appalling? Milo loves it and is doing really well on it. It doesn't read too bad on the label either. Just wondering thats all

Butchers isn't the worst (that accolade goes to Bakers) but it's not 'good' food. When you see 'animal derivatives' on the label, think twice. It's not meat as we understand the term but basically organic sludge that's stripped from the carcasses of unnamed animals once all the proper meat has been taken - gunge from the heads, guts, whatever.
