Walking or lack of it!
Hiya,
My staffy pup is 13weeks now and we have been taking him for walks for 2 weeks now, we took him just down the road at first to get him used to walking now we go around the block. He seems fine walking if we go a route for the first time, after that he just seems to want to sniff everything in sight or point blank refuse to budge unless i turn around and walk back home but insists on sitting at the end of the driveway and again refusing to budge to come indoors. I have tried treats and his favourite toy but it just isnt working. He gets excited to go for walks but i now dread it because i either have to look nasty by trying to pull the lead to get him to move or we end up just coming back home after a few mins. All the other puppies i see out are all walking perfectly, no sniffing or stopping, feel like mines the only one who's a pain in the bum.
Has anyone got any advice to help me out please?
Thank you

Ha! I think a lot of puppies are unsure of walks to begin with, especially if its cold or rainy outside! My old staffy would whine when I made her come for a walk! I think patience and lots of treats when he does follow you.

Does he like a particular toy or do you have a squeaky something that will get his interest. The big world must still be daunting but try to stay positive, if you get stressed pup will too
Do you drive? How does he travel? Can you take him in the car to a quiet park etc

Re: Walking or lack of it!
I have tried his favourite toy, but to no avail. The cat even followed us on a walk today and he didnt even want to follow her and he never normally leaves her alone. Today was the worst walk by far and since iv been back all hes seemed to do is sleep, so im wondering if this morning he was too tired to walk?
We have a park about 10min walk away thats quiet during the day but when i take him over there he just wants to sniff every strand of grass thats been pee'd on, so again we hardly get anywhere.
I might try and take some hot dogs out with us as i found out today that he loves those, think he may do anything for one of those, so will see if that has any effect.
Thank you

Aw he's so young I'd say it's ok to let him sniff and explore at the park - and make it fun like trying to get him to chase you or run over to you for a sausage

Sausages may help! And have you got a long lead or a washing line, something to keep him in your control but long enough you can run away from him and make him chase, try to make it more fun?
He is probably just exploring and getting used to all the new smells! It's a big scary world to a little pup and I bet all the other dogs smell amazing!
