Car Harness
Just been to the woods with Ped - we have to go in the car to get there. I bought a car harness a while ago - a Bergen one, its supposed to be brilliant but Ped can get out of it!!! 3 times he managed to wriggle out of it on the way home! Not very impressed as it cost me £35! He looks like hes getting out of a straight jacket when he does it! To be honest I'm not even sure how he does it as it fits pretty snug! Maybe he can dislocate his shoulders lol. Bit annoying really. We're going to have to get a dog guard for the car now so at least if he does get out of the harness he doesn't end up sitting on my lap!

Re: Car Harness
That doesn't sound good...does he wear a walking harness that he can't get out of? We have a short car lead that plugs into the seat belt bit and clips to Banes regular harness to keep him in

Re: Car Harness
not bergen! lol
well we tried with just the car harness but he got out of that in 2 seconds! so we put his car harness on over his walking harness. sometimes he's really good and doesn't bother trying to get out of it! but not today apparently. we tried the seatbelt one but he always managed to reach in between the front seats even on its shortest length so he has to go in the boot now lol

Re: Car Harness
Exactly the same thing happened to me with Harry. I bought the
Bergen Harness because I thought it was the best (certainly expensive),
and used it just the once. When I went to get Harry out of the car at the
end of our journey I found he was just sat there, very well behaved but no longer wearing his harness!
Useless and a waste of money

Re: Car Harness
I have this Ezy-dog chest plate harness and seat belt clip. P@H are still selling them as a set. She has not managed to get out and she is an absolute toad for the sneaky reverse out of collars and harness move.

Re: Car Harness
What annoys me is that the Bergan Harness is advertised as being the
only dog car safe harness sold in the UK that is tested to safety standards
and is supposed to be capable of protecting the dog in the event of an
accident.
Normal walking harnesses are deemed totally unsafe and wouldn't hold a
dogs weight in a crash. But at least they stay on the dog - the Bergan
one doesn't, as some of us have found out after forking out £39.00 and
thinking we were protecting our dogs.
I think its made by an American company, and in America its one of only
two harnesses tested.

We have the same as you Bane for Milo which he wears with his ezydog harness. Its great and he doesn't get tangled when he lies down. So so easy to put on and off too. They're also really cheap from ebay - about £3 ??

Re: Car Harness
We've also got what Bane has got, but Bug soon figured out that if she stands on the plug it releases her!! She's very well behaved in the car, just doesn't like being restrained..

Re: Car Harness
Ledger also quickly found the seatbelt release button and would free himself he hates being too far from me in the car and in my last one (bigger) would plain refuse to get into the boot - I bit the bullet and spent a fortune on a custom Barjo cage for the car as its safety tested and has two gates so if you do get a shunt from behind you can get into the crate via the back seats instead.

Re: Car Harness
Wow you guys have clever pooches
I guess in the end it is down to you what you want to use. If the car harness doesn't work can you not take it back for a refund as it isn't secure?

Re: Car Harness
Thats so funny about them finding out about the release catches. Milo hasn't done that yet - he just sits there & doesn't move. He even went all the way to Bournemouth (150 miles) and wouldn't lie down even tho he could have - he's a funny lad.
