Sweet potato chews
So I just got back from Canada a few weeks ago and I brought Zeus back some treats which I've never really seen in the UK.. Sweet Potato chews - an alternative to rawhide apparantly.
Since Zeus has Colitis, it's very hard for me to find a treat which sits right with him (it took me over a year just to find a food that works for him). Started giving him one of these a day and he absolutely loves them, they obviously don't last nowhere near as long as rawhide does - but it's a much safer alternative with I'm guessing a better taste.
Managed to find a similar product on Amazon, so if you're looking for something different, give it a try - 100% natural, no cr*p ingredients.. just 100% dried sweet potato!

Ahh great, didn't really know people use them. How long do they last once you've baked them? I'd prefer doing that rather than buying them from somewhere.

Re: Sweet potato chews
I have only done small batches so a couple days in airtight containers might try freezing some as Tesco had some enormous sweet potatoes in today (size of a small coconut) so might nip back and get some.
Mostly now tho Ledger has sweet potato mash in what's left of the hooves he has for his raw feeding and he has them frozen so they last longer for keeping and him eating them lol

Re: Sweet potato chews
sorry for opening an old conversation but trying to find treats for Buddy who is such a fussy eater- what do you do with the sweet potatoes cut them in chips and bake or bake whole and cut when cooked - sorry if I am being a bit dim - all new to making my own dog treats at the minute but learning fast...

I do treats of pumpkin and peanut butter. Bake in the oven. Pumpkin is good for the digestive system

Re: Sweet potato chews
...I kinda want to eat those myself.
Might have a look at making some of these, Gizmo's been rather picky lately and has lost a bit of weight.

Re: Sweet potato chews
Hope gizmo is feeling better soon. Dexter loves these biscuits. At least you know what's going into them and very cheap to make. I got the recipe online their is a load of different ones and so easy to bake. You might find something he likes.
