Need some advice
Having lost our last staffie at the end of May I said didn't want another dog for a while (he was nearly 16) and having 2 staffies before wouldn't have another,love the breed but people give them bad reputation!!! Now taken 1 in that was destined for dogs home aged 5 gorgeous as he is he's like a puppy just wants keep licking and really bad off his lead any tips please

hia from me and sasha yes a long lead would be a good way for him to have a run but you would still be in control and like saz said you could practise recall with

He has a extending lead but as soon as he's let off he just keeps running and running shame really cos he must do some miles when off the lead

Hiya from me and Vinnie, as said above a long training lead not an extendable one. Let him go and then recall, reward with a fave toy and a little play or a tasty treat you dont normally use

Hi & Welcome from Flo and me
My Flo is a rescue that we got at about 6 (estimate). Slightly different with her in that she's deaf but it's all about joint learning between the two of you and trust. It took us 18 months to build that trust. We used a long lead to start with as we could let her roam but still grab the lead if she went too far. We do have an extendable but found she was less responsive on that, I think it's because she could feel tension on her harness the whole time.
The key thing for us was not to let her feel we were tense when she was off lead, once we grew in confidence with her she did with us.
We now happily have her off lead. It takes some time but you can get there with an older Staff
