Poo eating
Yes, the most heinous crime of all. Pru has started doing it ALL THE TIME but weirdly, not even her own poo but any other old dogs poo she can find, we'll be walking along and she'll try and pick up a poo from the pavement or she'll pull me to the side of the pavement to try and get a bite of one. When she's off the lead in the park she is terrible, its like one big poo hunt for her. What on earth do I do? She eats plenty but has recently been leaving about half of her food.

Re: Poo eating
hmm. I did wonder whether using one of those vibrating collars might work, buzz her if she goes to eat it...

Re: Poo eating
My puppy does too! Although she only eats her own. The ONLY way we can work out to stop her is to make sure we can clean it up as soon as she does it, which of course, if we aren't home, isn't possible. Thank you for the link Sazzle, I need it too

Re: Poo eating
It's natural behaviour stemming from their ancestors, but should be discouraged due to parasites. I just use a strong leave command and treat when she does. Could be dietary too. What are you feeding?

Re: Poo eating
I feed her harringtons puppy dry food mixed with webbox chubb roll or a tin of sardines two times a day.

Re: Poo eating
She won't be getting much nutrient wise from that food, harringtons from what I can see doesn't actually have any meat in it, just maize and meal and we wouldn't even feed webbox to the stray kennel dogs as it's so full of rubbish. May have something to do with her pop eating, she's trying to get nutrients from elsewhere.

Re: Poo eating
Gosh, I didn't realise it was that bad. The breeder we got Pru from suggested it I'll go poking about on the site for some better alternatives, but does anyone have any personal recommendations? I don't really want to do raw at the moment however.

Re: Poo eating
I feed nature diet, but have heard good things about wainwrights (pets at home brand). I have fed
The first ingredient of harringtons is maize, which is nothing more than a filler, and the only meat mentioned is meat meal, which is basically just a filler too. So she's really just eating meaty flavoured grains, no good for a carnivore. Webbox rolls I would compare to mcdonalds chicken nuggets, no idea what's in there lol!

Re: Poo eating
*that sentence was meant to finish with I have fed Arden Grange and Burns to my kennel dogs and they did okay on them. I'm not a huge fan of dry food in general though. Sorry - phone sent too early!

Re: Poo eating
No worries - thanks for the advice! Gonna bin these chub rolls now, and you're right about the harringtons, I checked the label terrible!
having a look on zooplus now, I used to feed my old staffy james wellbeloved although its quite expensive. Might try some arden grange or burns I think.

Re: Poo eating
Try "berriewoods" website, that's where I order from. Don't know what your budget it, but I spend about £50 every 6 weeks on nature diet for Bug from there, and that includes delivery.

Re: Poo eating
Its hard to judge how long Pru's food last but I'd say a 15kg bag lasts around 6 weeks, maybe more. The harringtons was only £20 but I've plumped for Arden grange 12kg for £28. I don't mind paying that but I'm not sure I could stretch much further. I hope she likes it!

Re: Poo eating
Rocky is fed Barking Heads which we buy in a 6 Kg bag which costs about £23.00 and last about 6 - 7 weeks. The higher quality the food the less you need to feed.
Take a look at the list below of recommended foods:
http://staffy-bull-terrier.com/dry_food
Would also add James Welbeloved to the list above. A good quality food that is easily accessible

Re: Poo eating
Barking heads is really good but expensive!!! Pets at home do a fussy puppy thing we're if ur dog doesn't like the food you can send it back. Loki has always been a poo eater especially fox poo!!! We feed raw now best decision ever!! Although he's not going back onto it until next week
