Off lead
Hi everyone. Today I took Koda to the park (sunken oval), made sure no-one else was around, made him sit & let him off lead - my heart was in my throat the entire time !!! He went nuts, ran the length of the oval over and over and as soon as I ran in the opposite direction he bolted after me, when he caught me I made him sit & then stay as I backed away just to make sure I had control. He was a freakin' gem! I was SO pleased and can't wait to take him again!! My OH has been doing it for 2-3 weeks now but I'm never there and wasn't confident enough. My 9mth old puppy is becoming a 'big boy' now !! Chuffed.

Re: Off lead
I dont trust him at all so was a huge gamble. My OH has been doing it for a couple of weeks now (near daily) but Koda challenges me for the alpha title so I thought he would push me but he didnt at all, was so awesome!! Ran in other direction a couple of times to make it fun for him so he didnt lose interest and bolt off. Super pleased!!

Re: Off lead
We tried her off lead and i was very nervous but she didn`t go far. We also have a long line for her and i`m going to take it with us on are next walk with her chuckit balls. We have found a really good place to take her which is out of the way and i`ve not seen any other dogs there

Yea it is terrifying to let them loose
I felt exactly the same. We bough a rescue pup - 8 months old when we got her. Not lots of training, but loves company and FOOD. She was terrible on the leash, especially when she saw other dogs. I have been working hard to get her to walk 'gently' without pulling - loves cheese (so I chop this into tiny cubes) to give her treats when training out of the house zone. Will take dried liver, kangaroo strips, beef strips when at home for training, but only cheese when walking.
We have let her off the leash three or four times ( usually to a football ground which has fencing around it) and wave the bag with the cheese bits in to get her back. We do have another 11 year old staffy who comes back when called so she is helping to train our new younger dog. But it is worrying as the pup may see a distraction and run off. We have also let her off a couple of times on our walks down equestrian tracks - grassed paddocks really between farm. But there are horses, cows and sheep in the nearby farms. I get scared she will take off after them. It is like having a young child again. My heart goes bang when she spots them and I wave my bag of cheese, call both dogs and just hope she responds. Up til now she have been ok, but.....
Initially when we got her she was terrible when she saw another dog. Over the past 3 months been through many techniques to get her over being reactive to other dogs. Just got her reasonable and then she went into season. So obviously no real walks for the past 3 weeks. Took her out this Saturday, rotten Sunday.
Took both dog out yesterday and she was brilliant.
Love both my little treasures. But it will be more relaxing when I know Ruby may be less reactive to other dogs and will come back without me waving my little bag of cheese like an idiot
I have decide my pup is like my grandchildren - good one moment, excellent the next, but can be naughty at other times.

Re: Off lead
Ours is rarely on a lead now. Even while walking to the park. There 7 and a half months and if we walk past another dog if I say no they don't go near them if a dogs on the lead walking past. If I'm in the park and I see a dog of the lead walking past il let them have a sniff. Again though if I call them they come straight away
