Off lead....
Today was the day I decided to bite the bullet and go for it. Backside was twitching abit, as was unsure what she was going to do. The past couple of weeks we have been doing great with recall, stay, etc using the long line so I thought I may aswell let her off. It went great, stayed when told, recall was spot on, I walked off in the opposite direction and she came running after me. All in all couldn't ask for me. Albeit, we were the only ones there so no distractions whatsoever. See how she goes when there is.
P.S. for those who have recently started walking their puppies and are unsure about off lead, invest in a long line. Gives them some freedom and really helps to practise recall etc.

Re: Off lead....
Hi Matty
Just be ready for the fall I had super confidence in Tommy and a few weeks ago let him off and he was like a homing pidgeon trying to find the pack of labs that had just past us . Normally since he was titchy I always clip them both on when we see other dogs , then let them get 200 yards or so away , let them both off again no worries, this time not , so what I've done is still use the long line in case he darts (just gather it up as a normal lead) and then if he shows a chasing instinct he stays on it if he is carefree he comes off it . Those high value treats are the best thing ever though

Re: Off lead....
It feels like such a sense of achievement. I know this was her first time and with more of it she will go that extra bit to explore more, but I am so happy with how it went. It's such a nerve racking feeling when u first let them off.

Re: Off lead....
It's a great feeling, isn't it?
We started by letting Kerry off the lead briefly on the village green when no other dogs were around. For the last few months she has played completely off lead there, retrieving her ball and either ignoring other dogs or not reacting when they come for a sniff.
Yesterday my wife let her walk off lead all the way home from a walk and today we both walked her off-lead (apart from when cutting through Waitrose car park) on her entire walks, including waiting at road crossings and she was perfect. We're so happy and proud of her. Seven months training has paid off.
