puppys changing into dogs
Our lad is around 5 months. Id like to think that ive done a great job in socialising him and is great with all other dogs. As hes now turning from a pup to a dog i wondered if the hormonal change in him could change his attitude to dogs. Is there anything could do?

It could change, but just keep socialising him how you have been doing. Most of the time they carry on, but sometimes their attitude can change. Hopefully it won't just something to be aware of.

My boy Tank loves everyone and every dog, he's playful, loves a good run but stresses very easy if he's received a negative reaction by another dog.
I'm always extra wary, keep both mine on lead Unless no other dogs around, cause I dnot want the to put mine or others into an awkward position. Dnot get me wring, both mine are dog friendly but there's a lot of muppet dog owners out there, and my 2 are so powerful and strong I avoid all possibilities ! (unless I know the owner and dog)
Basically, as a handler of a powerful breed, u need to be 1 step ahead of ur dog, other dogs and other owners x

Re: puppys changing into dogs
Yea pretty much what everyone said, just keep taking him out let him play with other dogs and he'll be fine.
If you see any sings of him getting annoyed with the other dogs or whatever, put him back on the lead.

Hell start looking to you more for guidence so keep your body language in check. At that age mine were testing bounderies and although not aggressive marley would puff up and strick a pose which some dogs didnt like. In that case id flick him around and let em sniff his bum which started tails wagging. Just think upstart teenagers trying to break the rules. Couple of months later marley ignored most dogs but laska still flirts like something i cant post on here the tramp.

Re: puppys changing into dogs
welcome to teenaged hell. romeo lasted from 6mths- 10mnths of 'finding' himself.
Romeo was very playful and submissive as a lad, but around about8 months old he started to get a bit stroppy with other dogs that pushed him too much, now i have to keep a closer eye on him that no one is pushing his buttons too hard. he doesnt like to be bossed around. but like people all dogs are different. keep firm and fair and you'll get the best possible result from your dog even if its not the same as everyone elses

Re: puppys changing into dogs
I find Bacchus will take a" telling off " from older dogs when they've had enough of his rough play but a couple of times when a dog showed real aggression he was ready to retaliate, which quite shocked me at his age.

Re: puppys changing into dogs
Just to clarify.....I don't mean aggression during play, but when encountering aggression towards him when first meeting when on-lead.

Re: puppys changing into dogs
I would keep doing what your doing. Bella did change towards some dogs but not all. There are a lot of mbers on the forum who's dogs didn't change. I just make sure Bella is on lead when other dogs are around and worked on the "watch" command.

hey, brill work on the socialising, i agree with alot of what every one else has advised. We socilased at every chance we got. we never really went threw any bad patches with him just his excitment over meeting people in our home. Am sure when and if anything arises you will get thru this perfectly

Re: puppys changing into dogs
Just try to avoid him being put in any negative siuations associated to other dogs. Don't let anything frighten him through his two fear stages is the best advice I can give you! Lots of fun and games with sociable and friendly dogs and try not to let them realise their own strength and power.
