Introducing a kitten to my staffy? (Update) Empty Introducing a kitten to my staffy? (Update)

Post by apple_ashley Wed Jul 23 2014, 21:41

I'm about to go pick up a kitten in a few hours. Sarge has never been (well that I know of). I think he is going to be fine. But unsure of how to do the big 'meet and greet'
I'm planning to keep the kitten inside and sarge for the most part is an outside dog.

Be very careful. Staffies can be naturally game driven. Hopefully Sarge has worked on and is very good at "leave it." If so, you need to make sure early he knows to leave the kitten alone. Mine are not cat safe and I know that, but every Staff is different and you may be lucky. Never take a risk there though. Good luck with the new addition!

We decided to introduce both dogs tonight. Both of them are terrified of
Little Meowth! Sarge (my dog) ran under the table and refused to come out. And thumper (housemates dog) was that scarred he was farting lol. He (thumper) will try to take on dogs twice the size of him. But obviously a kitten that could prob for inside his mouth is the scariest thing in the world haha

Lula is fine with are cat but hates everyone else cat. I don`t leave Lula and Tigger alone more because he can be a little bugger with her at times. Just a few days a go she was sitting on the arm of the couch looking out of the window and he wanted to lie infront of the open window. Tigger jumped up behind her and tried to paw her but my son stop him. They both will come and get on my bed and sleep there not next to each other but they can both be on the bed no problems

Hope the dogs stop being afraid and are friendly to the tiny kitty

Aaw I hope they get along alright! Once they get used to the little guy I'm sure they'll settle.
When we visit my parents, they have one friendly cat, one not. Some times the cat can come right up to Bane and rub herself all over him, other times he will just keep lunging and snapping at her? Who knows...they are funny relationships!

Dont force it is what i will say they will take awhile to get used to each other, remember that its your dogs house so the kitten is an intruder.
