Best treat to use for training
Hi folks, our new to us 2 year rescue , Travis, is coming home tomorrow . What is the best thing to use as a reward whilst training?
He is on dry food at the moment , but will be looking at going to raw food soon
Thanks
Darren and Sarah

Re: Best treat to use for training
I used tiny pieces of spam, hotdog sausage and cheese for high value treats, you can also use his dried food

Re: Best treat to use for training
I use this recipe to make my own treats;
https://staffy-bull-terrier.niceboard.com/t51459-tuna-loaf
They're the best training treat that i've ever used! Bug is highly reactive and can be fear aggressive (rescue from a poor background, not my doing!!) and these keep her attention for long enough whilst the dog/man/scary monster passes. For lower value treats I use cheese/ham/fruit (she LOVES bananas and berries!)

Daisy loves berries too, while I've been away she's been eating my mum and dads raspberries off the bush!

Use something that is a high value treat, cheese is good as it also has a strong smell. Also give lots of praise when training this is also a high value treat

I used sliced up sausage ...kept in a bag in my pocket..use to let the dog know its there just before we went out...I think that's the key...the dog needs to know you've got them on your person...

Cat treats are a good one - smaller than dogs and very smelly

Re: Best treat to use for training
Thanks guys. We've had Travis a whole week know. He's very good at sitting now before we cross the road. No treats required. He's good at recognising the bumpy paving that is used for blind people to know where crossings are
We even let him of the lead for a while and he came back !! Used a few bits of his dry food.
