lead walking
Pardon tthe pun but at the end of my tether with this lol
Walking on lead shes far to excited and pulls really badly!!!!! She freaks with any face collar and the training class i go to (stopped til aug) try and get us just walking lead n collar.
I usually stop when she pulls and say heal but as soon as i move off its about a second til shes runnin on.
I feel like iv done so much wrong since i got her and its not bein understood by her :'(
Iv worked in pet retail for 7 and tried so many products but shes the first staffy iv had and at 15months now shes very testing lol

Re: lead walking
I know how you feel, Katy pulls like a tractor. We have been going to obedience classes, when we first started the teacher suggested a half check collar. What a difference, every time she pulls just check her & change direction saying close. You have to be on them constantly but its paying off with Katy as she passed her bronze award last week. Keep at it they get there in the end

Re: lead walking
You could try the heel sit method, teach her to come to heel and sit, then one step and sit, then 2 steps etc keeping the lead loose at all times, takes time but I found it worked. I always use a harness for walking too

Re: lead walking
This guy is really good and is a totally reward based trainer. Yeah you look like a real donut taking a step then stopping then another then stopping but I can attest that this worked for me and it didn't need any fancy tools to do.

Re: lead walking
Fred is a puller and found the harness worked well, but he cried like a baby all the way. I felt really cruel when passing other walkers.
What is wrong with him. Oh cruel me.

Re: lead walking
We've just changed from a half check to one of these http://www.ezydog.co.uk/checkmate-collar/
The snap fit makes it so much easier for fitting.
Never leave your dog alone with any kind of martingale collar on.
Pete.

Re: lead walking
It was odd with my Flo, being a rescue we weren't sure how she was on lead before she came home with us, but found she used to pull big time.
Once we gained her trust the pulling just melted away and now if she feels the slightest tension on the lead she slows up.
