help to quiet a vocal dog!
Hello
So went on a light walk as shes hating house arest, stitches out tomoz woohooo!!!
She is sooooo vocal and barks all the time, kids running past, scooters, older people, everything! All for attention, but she sounds like a raving looney. I always try and distract the behaviour and get her to calmly wait and reward.....but outside she couldnt give a toss about treats and iv tried hotdogs, nature menu treats, antos mini bones, chicken and nope!
Shes becoming so unruly its like shes got 6 months younger again.

Re: help to quiet a vocal dog!
I have heard that you need to teach them to bark on command first. I taught Lola to bark when I say 'speak'. Once they have learnt to do this you teach them 'quiet'. Also don't react when she barks as you are giving her attention. It is time consuming to teach but the relief when they get the hang of it is great

I feel your pain spud is constantly shouting at me, he'll be out back garden and come running in a start barking at me as if someone is in garden, but all he really wants is attention, or if put my feet up on couch/table he goes mad. The most annoying time is when I'm lying sleeping on couch with a hangover and he'll bark in my face :'(

Re: help to quiet a vocal dog!
Lula fine on walks but in the back garden she can be a right pain. We did notice at around 2:30pm-3pm she started barking. so we now bring her inside at that time. We think it because it gets nosier at that time with people going to collect there kids from school. Lula fine all day till that time then decides everyone should hear her and its worst if another dog joins in.
Also she quickly learned the treats were to get her inside and started ignoring them. Luckily for us she can`t say no to a piece of cheese and will come inside for it.

Haha spuds the exact same used drop a treat on floor and he'd run in but he wise to it now, so I pretend to get him something out hmthe fridge and tap his bowl then hide behind door and close it as soon as he comes in, he's always quiet in the garden unless another dog in the area barking and he likes to shout back at them

Re: help to quiet a vocal dog!
I can only get my Flo to bark when I go to her new toy box or make her wait for her rope toy, Then she goes nuts. She doesn't bark at all at any other time.
The howling must be something else Nath

Re: help to quiet a vocal dog!
Peppa barks if there's somebody behind the door quite rightfully so as she's a guarding dog so can't really complain or at a loud noise like dropping something heavy or if she really wants what mummy has got..She knows the "speak "command but I completely failed with the "shut up" :
