When does a staffy become vocal and talk and show affection
I have a staffy who is 14 now and she is very vocal so with this new rescue pup of about 5 and a half months I'm wondering will she be vocal too as I love it when they are. But so far nothing unless it's too early? Also with the rescue pup I find she is not very affectionate which I find strange for a staffy as they tend to be very affectionate. Even with sleeping etc she will not stay long next to one. My other girl has always been so affectionate and very clingy.

They are usually vocal at an early age but as she's a rescue she might have things in her early days that stopped it. Do you know her history? Was she from an abusive home? May explain her being quiet & not cuddly? I'm sure she will show her true loving side when she feels safe & settled

Yes I agree with Jenc. It can take time for them to feel fully secure in a new home. A rescue staff in my training class loves his mum but because he came from a home where he was locked out of rooms he struggles to show affection to her and won't come for cuddles but will sit on the sofa with her. Things do take time. Misty want very vocal with us until maybe a year after we got her at 14 mind. Now she talks to us all day long

She definitely came from.some abuse though dont have all the details as she was handed down. She would run and hide when first came but has got a bit better. She is obsessed with food and can never seem to get enough so I wonder about that too as if she was with her mother as we were told then you would think she had been drinking milk. Its difficult when one does not have a history or know the parents which can happen a lot in rescue. There is a lady who would like to take her as I fostered her but I ultimately want to do what's best for her..the other home is a good one. Here she is relatively settled now and likes the other dogs esp Bailey the Amstaff so it's not easy to know what is the best decision

Every dog will have their own personality traits. My staffy was never vocal..she would only bark if someone was at the back gate (where noone ever goes,) whislt playing with her plastic tray (the only toy she ever liked....weird animal) or if she had caught a hedgehog!
