our staffy is 18 months old and his two centre claws on his right leg every so often seem to split in two ,a thin layer of nail seems to grow over the top of a brown lower core, the nail over the top appears to grow quicker than the brown core and they separate horizontally. this seems to cause him discomfort, does anyone else have this problem and if so what can we do?

Moo split her claw at christmas, had it bandaged for about 2 weeks, and re-dressed about 5 times, was a nightmare because it was when we had the snow and she wasn't allowed to get the dressing wet so going out was tough! As the others said it seems to be quite commen, I was just unlucky I guess!
