Staff weight sizes?
Why is when you google staffordshire bull terrier sizes it comes back males 13-17kg and females 11-15.4kg.But i keep reading on here off males over 25-30 and even females over 20kg?

Re: Staff weight sizes?
i think this probably refers to the show dog standard. tessa is 28kg and an almost different breed to some of the micro staffies i have seen.

The vet told us Alfie would probably get to around 21kg but he is 19kg now at 9 months so I think he's going to be a lot more than 21kg! I've never measured his height though x

Alfie gets burns dry good mixed with wainwrights wet food. He was originally just on the burns dry food but he got bored of it so we started mixing it with some wet food to keep him interested he gets an hour a day on average xx

Re: Staff weight sizes?
Marquez is 18 months, just under 16" at the shoulder and 23.5kg
We've only discovered he's hypothyroid which explained why he was increasing in weight (4kg) over a 3 month period but now that we are treating his symptoms and he's able to exercise more now as well as making sure he raw meat is really lean. His weight has stabilised and hasn't increased over the last month but he's losing the fat and looking leaner so we'll take that
I would ideally like him to get down to 20kg but doubt that will happen as he does have some decent muscle on him.

Re: Staff weight sizes?
I was always curios about weight my boy was 27kg at his peak at 17 months old and 19 inches but then i started conditioning him and its down to 24 now and still coming of i used to prefer the large "bully" looking sbt's but i much prefer the lean athletic tall looking ones that look like american pitbull terriers going to struggle getting mine to look like that though as he genetically takes more after the bulldog

Re: Staff weight sizes?
millie is 9 months and is 14kg but she has no fat you can see her last rib and she is getting very muscley
Re: Staff weight sizes?
Took Douglas to the kennels today, where he's staying for a few days. Said to the kennel maid (who has 3 staffies herself) that he's a staffx bcos he's too big (22.4kg) for a regular staffie. Maybe he's partly EBT (several people have said). She said only one of her three staffies is small and she puts this one in for breed competitions. The other two are bigger and, like Douglas, are also rescue dogs. According to her, the bigger ones are the product of the back street breeders who, rather than trying to achieve a breed standard, consider that bigger is better. So puppies from this source could be cross-bred with anything. Just reporting what she said. Sounds plausible. Obviously, genetic diversity is not a bad thing.

Re: Staff weight sizes?
Gordon is now 23kg, havn't measured him in height, we havn't got any papers so somewhere along the lines there maybe some cross breeding but tbh we got him as a family pet, he's a happy chappy so whatever size he grows to, we're happy so long as he's healthy

Inez Maria wrote:Vin is 27.6 kg and by no means fat just muscle weighs more than fat I guess
I wouldn't say that it does but muscle the same weight of fat will look a lot smaller:) Now that Marquez has been able to exercise more now, he's definitely getting trimmer and that fat coming off. I swear that he's losing weight but every time time he gets weighed at the clinic his weight refuses to go down. Hubby keeps on reminding me that its only because he is getting more muscular while his fat is coming off. Should probably take him into the gym and get them to get the callipers out to get a rough idea of body fat percentage or a DEXA scan to see just how much fat and muscle he has
A good illustration to show the difference between fat and muscle
So you can have two dogs at exactly the same height and same weight but look drastically different depending on their fat to muscle ratio. I think just like humans, we need to not worry so much about the scales :p

Re: Staff weight sizes?
At her last check up at Christmas, the vet weighed Meg. She came in a 16kg. The vet said she was surprised she was that heavy as she didn't look that big, but when she got her on the examination table, she commented that 'She was all muscle, so that would explain her weight'

Are you in the UK?
For the UK your girl would be considered both too tall and too heavy.

I'm sure she is & she looks absolutely gorgeous! And if you're not showing her, there's no problem, although having champions in her background doesn't mean anything when it comes down to size - it's just one of those things.
Were her parents big?

1ststaff wrote:At what age do they finish "filling in"?
It differs! An awful lot depends your pup's genetics - what were her parents like? Also, food and exercise, but don't exercise too much too young - just build up gradually from now untill about 18 months. But just remember that she is still a PUP! Staffords don't generally finish growing upwards till about 12 months & then hormones will take over. She won't be finished 'growing' (mentally and physically) until she's over two years old, maybe a bit more.
Don't try and rush it - you'll end up disappointed & still have to wait for nature!

Re: Staff weight sizes?
The weight ranges you see when you Google Staffordshire Bull Terrier sizes are the breed standard according to kennel clubs. However, many Staffies can exceed these standards due to genetics, diet, or being mixed with other breeds.
