INFECTED EAR
Hi all, I have a male neutered staffie who is 11 months old, rescued him at 6 months old, I have noticed from the start that he was shaking his head a bit and cleaning his feet alot, when he was taken to vets to be neutered asked if they could check his ears, we were given some lotion to put into ear canal and massage every day but he hates it and goes mad, we took him back last week as was getting worse and ear was very red inside, he was given a steriod injection and a spray, seemed better for a couple of days but the last two nights he as been crying and trying to wipe his head along floor and outside, as anyone had the same problem? my other staffie as never had a ear infection but poor Ralph is suffering

Re: INFECTED EAR
Hi and welcome to the Forum. My Flo had ear trouble before we got her from the rescue center too. She had to have the ear canals removed in the end
To be honest, I would take him back to the vets. If it's still troubling as badly as it sounds it might need further treatment.

Re: INFECTED EAR
Awww poor Ralph, do you know what the active ingredient is in the spray the vet gave you ? he may be reacting to this. Get back in touch with the vet and let them know what he has been doing.

Re: INFECTED EAR
Hello I had this problem with hugo when he was about 6 months old. He made a right mess of his ears as he was constantly scratching them and shaking his head. Took him to the vets and they just gave us antibiotics and told us to front line him as they suspected mites. That cost us nearly 100 pound and has no affect on his ears at all. I decided to contact the breeders we bought him from. They advised us to use otodex ear drops for dogs as they had a few problems with there dogs ears in the past. These drops cost 3 Pound from our local jollies store or you can buy them anywhere on the internet. I started off by putting a few drops in each ear morning and night. As the days went on I was cleaning his ears more frequently as dirt and wax was releasing due to the drops starting to work. took a few weeks in total to clear and I now put the drops in a couple of times a week to be on the safe side. Fingers crossed ive had no problems with his ears since.
