Dermatologist For Super Itchy Staffie
Hi,
The vet is referring my 16 month old to a dermatologist as he has been scratching himself raw for a year. He's had all the tests going and nothing has come back positive. He's had skin scrapes, allergy testing, steroid tablets, special washes, antibiotics, special flee and mite treatments, his food has been changed several times to hypoallergenic and we are getting nowhere. It's his paws and face mainly and he scratches so badly that he cuts himself and his eyes gets very gooey.
Does anyone have experience of what the dermatologist is likely to do? Do they go into more in depth allergy testing ?

Forgot to mention that he rarely has solid poo's. They are always either a bit soft or very soft which the vet says would be the case with an allergy.

I'm not really sure but guess they'll do lots of allergy tests to pin point what's it is that's causing the problem! Poor baby how awful for you. I take it vet has checked it not the food your feeding? What do you feed?

Aw, poor pup. No experience here with a dermatologist, I'm afraid. Hope they find a solution!

He's had the royal canin hypoallergenic, a science plan hypoallergenic, James wellbeloved and wainwrights. Can anyone recommend anything else?

My girl has allergies and I've fed her Arden grange ocean white fish and potato and Simpsons salmon and potato, she did ok on the not as much itching as the meat based ones and they're grain free too, although I feed her raw now, she still has the odd flare up but nothing like it was

He's had various fish and rice kibble. Is that what you mean? If not what brand could I try?

Thanks hayley, I'll give them a go. I personally feel it's environmental with him but trying the fish based food will definitely be worth a go as he's really depressed with the itching. I give him piriton as well but it makes little difference.

Have you tried a grain free food ?
What type of washing powder do you use ?
Is he walked in grass?
I guess the vet has already asked you all of these though
