When to get Skye spayed
Hey guys, looking for your help again. As much as I'd love to have a pup from brody and Skye I know I shouldn't so I'm defo getting her spayed.
I'm reading up on here that male dogs are best getting done once there fully grown to help build muscles but is it the same for the females? My vet recommended getting her spayed before her first heat cycle but I'm not wanting to do this if it effects her build like it does the males.
Thanks

Re: When to get Skye spayed
Hiya! You're definitely right, there really doesn't need to be anymore bull breed crosses in the population! Whilst I'd usually say wait 18-24 months, I'd probably lean more towards after 12 months and 3 months after her second season. Only because separating two entire dogs is going to be an absolute nightmare! And we don't want any accidents!! I wouldn't spay before first season for sure.

I would wait until at least one season, ideally 2 or 3 but as said above it may be difficult for you to wait that long x

Re: When to get Skye spayed
The females also need their growing time and hormones are necessary to the process so if you have to spay her do it about 3 months after her 2nd season. Or at about 18 months.
Does anybody know about tying the ovaries procedure in the u.k. Instead of removing the ovaries and womb altogether ? I heard its common in the states

Re: When to get Skye spayed
Katy is booked in for spaying this Thursday, I looked into keyhole surgery in Ashford so it would be a quicker recovery time for Katy. It would involve only removing the ovaries but after a lot of time researching the full spaying is better for the bitch in the long run (health wise) Katy has had 2 seasons & will be 19 months when she's donepeppa wrote:The females also need their growing time and hormones are necessary to the process so if you have to spay her do it about 3 months after her 2nd season. Re: When to get Skye spayed
Good luck on Thursday! Peppa is 6.5 months now and stiil didn't come into season so I have a little time as I had few surgeries myself And admit that I find the thought of her going through the same very disturbing as shes in perfect health but ill have to deal with it when the time comes as Having puppies is not an option.
