when to get spayed
sox has just come out of season and i want to get her done,i believe its 2 months after season,if im wrong could one of your goodselves correct me,also ive heard they put weight on when this is done,is this true as she looks good at the mo,i suppose diet and extra exercise can keep this in check.

I have just been looking into this for you. There is a lot of contradicting advise online. Best thing talk to your vet as they can give you the correct advise for Sox.

Re: when to get spayed
I've always been under the impression that the reproductive organs need to shrink back to pre-season size before spaying. I think that's about half way between seasons, so approx. 3 months after the season has ended.
Some vets will do it a little earlier, but I would have thought it's better to be safe than sorry & wait for the 3months - after all, she won't come into season again for 6 months, so you have plenty of time.

P.S. Waiting 3 months also means that if she gets a phantom pregnancy, she'll be completely over it.

Re: when to get spayed
When i spoke to my vet about it he said he will be willing to do it when she is 3months after her finish date and to make notes of when it began and when it ended to be extra sure.
Any dog can put on weight w.out enough exercise spayed or not lol.

Re: when to get spayed
My girl was spayed at 20 months due to pyometra, she was absolutely fine with her weight till around 12 months after the spay, she has gained weight and I have found it very difficult to control it,even by giving her more exercise and cutting her food back.
Hormone's are at there most dormant midway through a season and the risk of bleeding is reduced that's why vets prefer to spay a few months afterwards.
