Post by greenhouse Thu Apr 10 2014, 14:26

got my dog in from a walk and one of his claws has cut off right at the paw pad Surprised . I can just see his toe bone and its stopped bleeding.  I cant get him to vet till later.Sad
what do i do till i can take him to vet i tried bandages but he does not like it.
I dont know what caused this. looks like a clean cut. poor ronin always something wrong with him.

So should I take him to vet or just keep a close eye on it ? It has stopped bleeding and according to some posts online, the nails grow back in with no problems. Thanks for any replies.

I panicked I won't lie lol! But a couple of pooches on here had had it happen so I kindly asked their hoomans and they said don't bother with the vets they'll only say to do the same thing, I just filled a lil bowl up with saline solution to keep it clean and it's healing nicely Smile xx

Daisy has done this on both dew claws and one back foot, I just keep it clean and rested her when she was limping x

Ai the vet will give some antibiotics, in hindsight if Ledger did it again I'd give it a couple days with salt water bathing before going to the vet only if meds needed, the bandage only lasted til we got home as it was

Hope it heals soon, does it look red and inflammed ? if so it may be infected.

A bad smell would certainly indicate infection and anti biotics would be needed for that x
