Skin Allergy with raised lumps
Hi All, My English Staffy has developed raised lumps under the skin, as a typical staffy she has sensitive skin but these are to another level and I've never seen them to this size. We have just given her an anti -histamine and just waiting to see if that helps. Any help or advice would be appreciated, otherwise it's off to the vet.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Skin Allergy with raised lumps
This sounds like an allergic reaction to something, have you used anything different in the home - detergent or have you given a different food to your dog ? Grass can also cause an allergic reaction

May be an idea to give the vet a call if you are concerned.

Re: Skin Allergy with raised lumps
Nothing new has been introduced, she's 4 and we've been through all food related allergies and removed all grasses & plants that trigger her off over the years! this is a totally new one and weird one? we will take her to vet but was hoping maybe its happened before somewhere so we don't want to go down the courterzone treatment path.

Re: Skin Allergy with raised lumps
That was our boy Marco (Dogo Argentino) and that's what he would look like a couple of days after being washed. All shampoos would cause the same reaction including the hypoallergenic ones. He was also allergic to chicken (and eggs) which would also bring up the same bumps. His chicken allergy started when he was about 18 months but wasn't the cause of these bumps as he hadn't had any and was 100% the shampoo in this case as he had been at the boarding kennel and they had washed him the day he came home.
Two of our other dogos also had the same reaction to shampoos and chicken/eggs like this.

Re: Skin Allergy with raised lumps
She had them earlier in the day but smaller, my wife washed her and they did increase, she uses a derma vine wash that was recommended last time she had a different rash on her under side. I've given her phenergan to stop the scratching. She has only dry food and i think it is chicken based so i'll eliminate that, she has been on this food for a couple of weeks though?
Thanks so much for your help

Re: Skin Allergy with raised lumps
This is a tricky one because she had them before your wife washed her and even though they got larger after the wash, she still had the bump so I'm more inclined to think it could be the food. What brand of dry food is she eating? When I was feeding them dry food, they seemed to do much better with the grain free kinds.

Yes i'm thinking your right, I was giving her Royal Canin but it was unavailable last time so I got Pro Plan it is the first time she's had it and the last now! They are starting to reduce in size now too

Re: Skin Allergy with raised lumps
Think we found your girls problem.... the food. Pro Plan seems to have a lot more allergy causing ingredients compared to Royal Canin which is why you're seeing a reaction now.

Re: Skin Allergy with raised lumps
Yep I think your right!
I have stayed away from pro plan for 4 years & I was not keen on getting it. Just a little weird its take so long to react but i guess its been building up in her system!
Thank you for your help i appreciate it x

Re: Skin Allergy with raised lumps
I would agree with Diane, try a grain free food, it may well be the cause. Talk it over with the the vet too.
