Re: Biting At 7 Weeks
Puppy phase, lots of toys and interaction, re-name them 'no' for a while, have patience, a lot of it and get down to basic training! 7 weeks is quite young so don't expect miracles over nite! x

Re: Biting At 7 Weeks
Sorry, I was only joking, couldn't resist.
Puppies usually get there final manners from their Mother during the between 5 and 12 weeks. This includes biting and other things that have to be "limited".
The raging about is just play and excess energy. You now have to take the place of his litter mates for Play. Lots of Toys and stimulation usually helps this.
The biting persists for some time. Barney is now 13 weeks and still does it, although far gentler than before.
There is advice in the training section for this.
If you think your dog is extra hyper consider diet. What are you feeding him?

Re: Biting At 7 Weeks
7 weeks is VERY young, even to be apart from her mother. If you're calm, kind and consistent with her, eventually she will quieten down, but think months or years, not weeks.

Re: Biting At 7 Weeks
Ok, not the best quality. Diet can have a major effect on behaviour. There are endless posts on this site under a specific diet heading that will help.
Diet must be changed gradually over the course of a week or so. Otherwise stomach upsets occur! Be careful. Choose a Diet with high meat contaent (usually kibble) and no grain.

You are not alone. Biting (referred to as Mouthing) is something they do. A yelp like a litter mate can stop them in their tracks sometimes.

Re: Biting At 7 Weeks
Good dry foods include Science Diet, James Well Beloved, Burns amongst a myriad of others. I have a bad shoulder at the moment and typing is really difficult.
There are links here that address all your current concerns under various headings. You are not mentioning anything that is out of the ordinary. Your Puppy was removed from the Litter at least a week earlier than is advised really which can also make a big difference to behaviour.
Puppies are bundles of energy and extremely hard work. They will test your patience to the limit.
You must try to keep your patience, sometimes it feels like they will never "get it". But they do, and if you have kept your patience you will be richly rewarded with the relationship that builds.
Remember, they are babies and know nothing. Nothing is deliberate, they just do not know it is wrong.
It will come!

It seems to take forever. Barnet still does it at 13 weeks. Drives me mad! lol
Dogs, especially Staffords, love and rely on Human companionship far more than a Cat.
But Staffords are so loving it is unbelievable. They give so much back. She will become your best friend sooner than you think!

Re: Biting At 7 Weeks
I had to take my Dad to Kings College Hospital today and took Barney with us.
Very busy major London Hospital. While me and Barney waited outside hre thought every single person had come to fuss him. Everyone that passed, he sat down wagging his tail, then jumped up at them, then rolled on his back for a belly rub.
If anyone ignored him, he barked at them. Nightmare.
20 belly rubs. (Mind you, I got two phone numbers, so not all bad, he is a chick magnet lol)

She's got ya
Personally I have never had one as young, however, I can also say that those that are older get you just the same. I've had my Flo for two years now and even though she is "special needs" she makes me smile every single day

Re: Biting At 7 Weeks
Sorry, didn't mean to hijack (opps shouldn't say that at he mo ) your chat.
Our Flo chose us from BDCH nearly 2 years ago.. She had a TECA.. Total ear canal removal.. By her previous owners which in effect makes her pretty much deaf.
She is the most amazing Staff, so very very well behaved and so very loving. It surprises me every week just how smart she is with just hand signals.
With love and treats, all our favourite brand of dog can change media perception... Excuse me whilst I remove Flo's snout from her a*rse.

Re: Biting At 7 Weeks
Typical puppy behaviour a high squeal if its too hard a bite and firm no! Pleas get her off the pedigree and Wagg its really not a good quality food. If you are weaning her off at the moment (gradually) what brand of dried food are you swapping too?
She shouldn't really need puppy milk either.
Glad you have an appointment at the vets for a check over too

Re: Biting At 7 Weeks
Lula was awful for mouthing and we were all covered in scratches. I must admit at times it did feel like she would never stop and it was very slow progress but she did learn. Lula is a lot more gentle and a firm no soon puts a stop to it.
Only thing now she is teething so wants to chew everything in sight. I think one of her teeth has already fallen out but it not easy to get her to stay still so i can look

Re: Biting At 7 Weeks
At the end of the day it is up to you what you feed her but I think Wagg is one of the worst dog foods available. It's so cheap and you get what for you pay for.
For the biting, she will grow out of it but you have to teach her We found that telling Bane "no" and or ignoring him/moving him into another room worked. She is still very young and will need a lot of attention, play time and training! It's a stressful time as they can be very naughty but the best time so make the most of it

I think Wainwrights and James Wellbeloved are quite popular on here too.
Haha Bane would be lucky to get a steak dinner, I don't know how some people have time to cook meals for their dogs each day Aw! We have so many scars from Bane! Just don't get caught right in the middle of her front scissor teeth! Man they tear quick and hurt bad!

Wagg isn't good either look at the link below for some good dried foods, maybe more expensive but well worth itGuyCalledPolly wrote:I Was Thinking Of Just Feeding Her Wagg After She's Off The Pedigree

It will get better when she gets her big teeth and learns not to bite but still hurts if they catch you wrong

Re: Biting At 7 Weeks
I feed mine of james well beloved, its not cheap so I looked around to find it on offer then bought 6 months worth in one go to save money in the long run.

They do a puppy and junior version but I think its only availiable in one flavour and there doesn't seem to be much difference in composition to the adult food.

Moved this to puppy chat.
I would also recommend the James Welbeloved food, it's good quality and easily available.

Re: Biting At 7 Weeks
Hi Polly, some days you think you have got the biting/nipping thing under control then it starts all over again, yes those teeth are super sharp, Jed made me bleed 100 of times, persistence is the key and it will take awhile but it will happen, i started Jed on Royal canine/dry and chicken necks, now he is on puppy optimum and raw for lunch and is doing very well on it, try to carry a toy around with you and when Poppy goes to bite you stick the toy in her mouth
