My Sick Uzie Empty My Sick Uzie

Post by MyBoyUzie Mon May 23 2011, 03:21

He pooped nasty & vomited twice yesterday. Before that I had just noticed his poops were looking nasty. Until yesterday which he pooped very liquidy which is when I got really concerned. I changed his puppy food about 3 weeks ago and thought maybe it could be that, but I was also told it could possibly be parvo. Any suggestions on how to make him feel better?

Sounds a silly question, but what does the poop smell like, and is there blood in it?

A dog with parvo's poop smells 'metallic' because of the blood passed with it.

As your pup is so young, though, I'd take him to the vets - you can't be too careful with youngsters!

Plain foods are needed and if the problem does not start to get better then take your dog to the vets.

Offer only water for 24 hours(do not do this if the pup is still very young).Offer little amounts if it stays down offer slightly more.If the pup/dog stops holds the water down and stops being sick offer some food.

Plain rice with boiled chicken.Same as above offer a tiny amount and if it stays down offer a little more.

When I use this method I check on the pup/dog every two hours and offer food or the water depending what stage the pup/dog is at.

Also the broth from the chicken will help encourage the pup/dog to drink.

If at any time the pup/dog show any sign of dehydration go start to the vets.

Sardines with tomato sauce is also a good plain food to offer.

I wouldn't give tomato sauce to a puppy with a bad tum. Too rich.

The rescue where I got my pup from recommend it to me.It does work in my experience, I should have also said that it should be served with plain white rice.

I agree with the rice, and even the sardines, but I'd choose the ones in oil rather than sauce. If their stomach's upset, the sauce could make it worse (tomatoes are often used in home made laxatives!).

I agree with Caryll, the tomato sauce could be stuck in doggy's stomach which would make him/her vomit even more.

Poppy was pooping very liquidy few days ago, and she vomitted few times but I just let her have water for 24 hours.. to see whether she gets better or not. Luckily she did, and after that I gave her dry biscuits just to see how she poops and it was back to normal. So I think keeping your dog off their normal food for 24 hours but giving them plenty of water is a good cure.
