Yeah I wouldn't feed her, being thirsty may suggest salt water was drunk?

Re: sick help please
It's really not something I've had to deal with so honestly don't know If it were me I'd be tempted to withold water for a couple of hours then give it back and see, maybe her stomach will have settled by then? But like I say I don't really know what to do for the best xx

Re: sick help please
Ive just done a quick search, Id try give your vet a ring to check what they think. I know, this is more fuel for her to fire at you, but she needs water. Give her small amounts of water every 1/2 hour, even if it means you’ll be cleaning it up. When a dog drinks salt water they become dehydrated by all the extra sodium now in their system. This throws their electrolytes out of wack and in most cases causing vomiting and diarrhoea. Hope this helps

Re: sick help please
I haven't experienced anything like this, but tbh I'd give her all the water she wants to drink. If she's drunk sea water on her excursion, she will be thirsty. And if she sicks up sand - better out than in imho.
She will get tired with all the vomiting, but if I were you I'd keep her close by all night and keep a watch on her - so long as she doesn't collapse completely (flat out, possibly panting, eyes glazed or vacant - which would need a rush to the emergency 24/7 vet) then I would keep her hydrated to counteract the salt she's taken in and then take her to your vet first thing, unless she bounces back completely (which she may well do!). Sod's law it's the weekend.
Good luck - do let us know how she gets on

Yes best little and often, have you got ice cubes too, can you get her to eat them? Not sure about ginger to dogs, although its known to settle our stomachs. I'd still ring the vet for advice too much salt can be dangerous. Don't want to scare you but it's best to be safe.

Re: sick help please
Well she is a very little girl still and little girls do daft things like gobbling up sand and sea water
I do wish you luck - maybe you won't get much sleep tonight watching over her, unfortunately. If she keeps on and on vomiting (especially if she still brings up sand) she will get very tired, and you must keep an eye on her sleeping pattern - if she's relaxed and breathing normally that's great. If she goes "flat" with rapid shallow breathing then I'm afraid you must get some vetinary advice as quickly as possible.
It's an anxious time for you, but hopefully she will have got the crap out of her system and rehydrated herself.
Good luck

I would suggest getting her to see the vet as soon as you can.

Re: sick help please
I'd limit the amount you give her to drink, but encourage her to drink more often. As already said, ice cubes may help - just a couple every hour or so.
What might also help is to soak a clean cloth with water & either give that to her to chew, or freeze it & let her chew it for moisture (that's Eleanor's idea!).
If you give her anything to eat, try adding a small amount of water to it.

Re: sick help please
So glad all is well now. Our spaniel got salt poisoning from too much sea water a few months ago. We had to ring the emergency vet because he was shaking in his sleep, being sick etc
The vet said he had salt poisoning and to limit his water to little and often. He said the dog will drink excessively as its body is telling it that they are dehydrated and then they drink too much to counter it. Thus you have to control it to a point.
Very scary and to be honest we haven't been back to the sea since!
