Mika's walks Empty Mika's walks

Had a few really good walks up over the moors just round from where I live. Went out with my girlfriends sister and her two dogs, a staff and staff X whippet, and Mika loved it. Had a great time and was good exercise for her! She was good off the lead and once I got the harness on her she was good on the lead too. But then yesterday just when we got to the part where I put her back on the lead, she kept running away from me and hiding in the long grass. I sat on the ground, shouted her, went to her and even just left her. Nothing worked, she followed me then ran in front of me and walked infront of me all the way home. She wouldn't come to me to put the lead on her, not sure why or what to do to make her stop that? Don't want that happening again incase she runs off and doesn't come back

Remind me how old is Mika? Is she just testing her boundaries? Xx

I would say that yes she is testing boundaries. Stick with what your doing and it will pass, just be patient and very persistent Xx

Agree with Janey. Also, try using tasty treats to lure her back that way you're rewarding her for coming back when you want her to and she'll associate the lead with yummy things Smile

Agree with Janey and Lisa. Have you tried a long lead yet? It will let her roam but make sure she doesn't run off

Sounds to me like she's definitely pushing you Rolling Eyes I've got one of these. Gives them the freedom and your still in control, I just let it trail along the floor Smile

I would also recommend the long training lead and some training in the basics, sit, stay, leave etc. Some tasty treats would help also.
