Does not like walks.
My puppy does not like walks,.I have a huge back garden and she would rather run around there with my other 2 dogs than go off to a field. She will come into the house or to the end of the road on a lead then wants to go home. She is not afraid of anything or the field or anything. She is the bravest Pup I have seen or owned. Is she just a home bird.Who wants to play with the kids and dogs in her family. She lies down and gets stubborn. As if to say no this is my territory.I brought her with another dog to see if she copied it but no she just lay down in the grass. She is otherwise hyper and has lots of energy.I do not mind if she does not want to go but maybe I should make her to help her run off some energy. She may be missing out.

Re: Does not like walks.
Hi
I've just had the same problem with my 5 month old
Pup,wouldn't even walk with our other staffie so we took him to puppy class and they suggested
Taking cooked chicken with me and to hold in
Front of his nose and slowly walk forward and
Have just managed to walk around two blocks of our road
For the first time.

Re: Does not like walks.
Just needs to get used to it, pups dont wander they like to stay with the family. She is all about play at the moment and a walk seems awfully boring, make it really exciting by playing with her and having toys and treats. you may look like a headcase running and jumping up the street with a squeaky toy but your dog will love it

Just with the terrier I have.He loves it but she just runs from grass verge to grass verge and lays down. She does however come to me when I call her and never wanders off.She is better off the lead than on it.She jumps up on and off the sofa when I tell her and also gets into her bed when I ask too.It just seems to be the walk where she gets stubborn.I was thinking of trying a different lead today in case it is that.

Re: Does not like walks.
hi, im having the same problem with my bailey, he is fine if i take both dogs out, but if i just take him out, i get to the end of the cul de sac his brakes lock on and he wont go any further unless i turn back home. Its a struggle to take both dogs out at the same time as they are both so strong, I will also try and follow any advice given to you on here. good luck!
Re: Does not like walks.
Not taking your dog out for walks will lead to behavioural issues later on - pups need to be socialised with all sorts of things.

Re: Does not like walks.
She is doing well on her walks now that she realised sniffing things is fun.
She does stop to look at people or dogs or cars as its all new to her.She seems to want to say hello to every body.Very social.Every body keeps looking at her as she is cute.I have to make sure I do not pull her and go at her pace.Sometimes she likes to lie down and look around. My other dog likes power walks and she likes to ramble more.

Re: Does not like walks.
I think that's quite typical of a terrier, to want to have a good sniff around Glad to hear things are going better now.
