Walking my girls last night. Just left the park and saw a man with his young child (about 6) with a black labrador. As always, I pulled my two towards me to allow them to pass when the dog pulled and the child, who had hold of the lead, let go of the lead. He came running straight at me and Roxie automatically went into attack mode, which also started off Maisey so I had three brawling dogs at my feet.

I think I shouted a swear word, more in shock than anything, and the bloke came and grabbed his dog back and said 'now there is no need to be like that'. I tried to explain that Roxie was very nervous of other dogs but all he kept saying was 'my dog is friendly' and only wanted to play?????

What I can't understand is why is his daughter holding a powerful dog. Also, this happened right next to the road which, thankfully, as only a residential through road is not that busy but it could have ended so differently.

We ended our conversation with me asking that he keep hold of the dog as he is too big for a young child to be holding. The thing that upsets me the most is that I have been trying really hard with Roxie to get her to pass other dogs and ignore them - I have no doubt this will put her right back. grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

This would of had me fuming too, did he realise that while the child has hold of the lead the child has responsibility for the dog and it's actions !!!

Grr how do they turn it round to somehow be your fault! Silly people! What if he had dragged the child over to the fight and she got bitten by accident!

That does make me mad too, a child holding a dogs lead. Hope Roxie gets back to normal soon.

Yes I agree, when you think of what could have happened, eg, child bitten, dog run over by a car, doesn't bear thinking about. Hopefully they have learned a valuation lesson.
