Post by Carly0503 Tue May 17 2011, 17:43

Hi my name is Carly, i just recently got a 5 and 1/2 month Staffie called Chloe. I couldnt of asked for a better puppy Big Grin she is so good and very loving. She does do this thing when she plays or gets excited where she 'mouths' or another way of putting it is biting the air, is this normal? should we try and stop her doing it?
Any comments would be appreciated Smile

Thanks

Hiya and welcome to the forum, also not something I've seen, I guess she is just being a puppy, as long as she isn't mouthing at you, cause then you do need to stop it. Smile

Thanks for the advice Smile i'll keep an eye on it.
i am new to this sort of thing and also new to Staffies so i have a few questions.
I have spoken to lots of people who own Staffies and all say how crazy/lively they are. Chloe is very 'chilled out' she sleeps a lot most of the day&night infact, she does have her moments when she has a crazy 10 minutes but thats a far as it goes is this normal? i know i am probably worrying about nothing but like to make sure.
Thanks

Smile

As long as she is fine in herself, eating etc. You haven't mentioned how long you've had her, but she still may be adjusting and settling in, getting used to everything. Mine is a looney, I wish she did sleep more but there all different! Staffs are an amzing breed, very dominant and very stubborn and strong willed, but so loving and eager to please!! Ask as many questions as you like, non of us ar experts but between us all we've seen most Smile

i've had her almost 3 weeks so it makes sense that shes still settling in. She eats around 2 cups of dry biscuits a day sometimes not even that- and i have checked it out and if my research is right she should be eating between 2-4 cups a day. I agree, Staffs are an amazing breed. thanks im glad i joined nice to be able to talk to people that know more Smile

Hi & welcome!

She's a gorgeous girl! The mouthing the air thing is fascinating, I don't suppose you could get a video of it, could you? I don't think it's anything to worry about, though.

They all have different metabolisms, so the amount of food on the packets of dog food are only an amount to start with. Then you adjust the amounts to suit each individual dog.

Hi and welcome.
Bodhi is quite chilled, will have his mad 20 mins a good walk and then will just sleep either in his crate or on your lap.
My friends border collie bites the air, have no idea why but thought you might like to know your are not alone. Smile
On the food Bodhi only has 2 cups a day, and either a sardine, a bit of tuna or a raw egg with shell but only in his morning feed. As long as coat is shiny and she is healthy and you can't see her ribs but can feel them she's fine. x

Bruno does it after he's been told as if he's back chatting me like a teenager Laughing hoping he grows out of it cos he doesn't look very nice when he does it.

I give Bruno 6 handfuls of food a day, don't know how much that actually is. His food guide says 165grams a day but i don't think he would be able to cope on that amout as he is a greedy pig and now can eat his food in less than a minute Rolling Eyes

i will try to get a video up soon of chloe, although proving difficult as everytime i go to film her doing it she stops, its as if she knows Smile .

Bruno311210- Bruno is gorgeous and the first staffie ive found that also does the mouthing thing so glad chloe is not the only one although i agree it doesnt look very nice.

nicolalouises- I will enjoy the peace and quiet Big Grin im sure once she has fully settled it'll all change, then i may take you up on the offer of swapsies Laughing

Chloe is so cute Big Grin

Bruno sleeps most of the day and night too, but he's always up for a walk if anyone wants to take him, he seems to wake up, when the kids come home from school then around 7.30 he'll go back to sleep and just get up for a drink or go and do his business Smile
