New Member - Advice needed....1
Good Afternoon all,
Just surfing the internet and came across this website which I found very interesting so thought I would join.
How can I put this, would anyone know anything about Mast Tumors within Staff's? The reason I ask is we have sadly experienced a huge loss of our pet dog very recently. Just for peice of mind, we are trying piece together whether we could have done anything as it happened so suddenly within a 12 hours time frame and more importantly that we made the correct decision of having to let our dog go to a better place............
Any advice of anyone with knowledge of cancerous tumors would be hughly apppreciated.
Many Thanks and Kind Regards
Jason

Howdy from Jed and I, so very sorry for your loss, it is never an easy decision and at least your loved one is now at peace, i have lost 2 boys to cancer, the first one was out of the blue, popped out like the size of a football within of an hour, the second the symptoms come on with in a fortnight, and he passed away from cancer in his chest and fluid on his heart, unfortunately there are many different strains of cancer and many you dont even know that they have had it for a long time with no tell tale symptoms. Did your vet give you any information on Mast Tumours? Sorry i cant be of anymore help

Welcome from Tip and me. So sorry for your loss. Cancer is a horrible killer. Eight months ago we had to put my ten year old GSD down due to massive tumors all through his body. Don't second guess your choice to free your pet from the pain.
Sometimes you got to make the hard decisions. Even if it hurt. They served us with love and devotion and releasing them from a life that only hold pain is a service we need to make sometimes.

Hello All,
Sincerely appreciate everyone’s messages on here and I am really grateful to you all.
Hello Polly, Thank you for your message. It is certainly the worst thing anyone can do and we know he is at peace right now. I am really sorry to hear of your losses of your two previously, you must have learned a lot from the whole experience. My thoughts go out to you....
Apparently the VET said it was a mast cell tumor (MCT), tumor that had burst causing internal bleeding. At that stage we were under the impression that it has spread and given the option of one to operate on it advising that they may have to remove the spleen if it is on the spleen but if it is on the liver that there would be nothing they can do - with the operation he would have likely to have lasted up to another 2-6 months they said. The tumours were obviously there but with no tale tell symptoms as you mentioned and overnight he was sick and then mid morning his breathing got really bad and knew something was not right at this stage - this is when he was taken to the Vet. He was very strong, fast and athletic typed and you would never be able to tell of any signs previously. You are correct; there are many strains of cancer…….
Nicolene, again thank you for your message. I fully understand, it is just the heartache of it all. We will surely remember him for all the good times and memories which will be cherished. He had just turned 10exactly one week before we had to say our goodbye.......
