Walks
Hey all
So Lobo is 10months now 25kg (I know that's a lot but vet says he's healthy and not over weight) oh and he's pure staffy no cross.
Walking has become a pain again. I say again because not long ago I bought the Halti harness which worked a treat but now it seems as though he has become immune to it. He pulls and pulls and pulls. Now I'm not light I'm just over 100kg and he can make me skip a few steps and that's with the harness on. With just a collar it's like being pulled by a train. I want to enjoy going on walks with him but it's really starting to hurt my arms.
Now I've tried the turn around and walk a few steps also the keep turning every time he steps just in front saying "this way" and he reacts right away but with this one he eventually starts jumping up and trying to bite/nip. All in all. Nothing's working

Re: Walks
Have you tried just a regualr harness on him to see how that goes, EzyDog do some good ones as in the link below, either the chestplate or the Convert harness:

El Pero also do some good ones:

Re: Walks
Tip and I working on this one too. I stop walking and make her sit if she pulls me. She is smart enough that she figured out her pulling is the reason we stopped moving. And she hates stopping during walks. So the last two days (touch wood!!!) Have gone better. Persistence do pay off. Good luck

Re: Walks
Time and patient will pay off. Staffies are very clever dogs, they soon pick up and learn. Have you tried teaching heel yet? You can do it anywhere, in the house, in the garden, and then try it outside on walks.

Re: Walks
I can't help as biscuit is rubbish too!! When I was only walking her for an hour a day I walked her on a halti as she had loads of energy! Now that she's getting 2-3 hours a day she's settled down a lot and walks behind me on the way home she's so tired bless her lol! How much is he walked a day? I've heard great things about dog-o-matic head collars!

Re: Walks
I have a dogmatic head collar as sometimes I'm so desperate not to be pulled all over so when I d a street walk I use this and a short / normal lead and Oz is a different dog and a joy, if we are going in the woods or park then I have an el perro (just arrived) harness and a flexi lead. A head collar isn't the answer as training should be the way but sometimes I've jus had enough. I can't tell you what a difference the head collar is. Oz has quite a big head so size 3a was the best hope this helps oh uses harness all the time and gets Oz towalk next to him but he's a lot stronger than me

Re: Walks
I think we will find out staffies are always stronger than us. All 3 of us have been pulled over flying by Pixee when we first had her on the long training lead, a lesson learned to watch when the long training lead runs out
