First walk!
Well sonic has just had her first walk...she met a Labrador and a collie and said hello very nicely to both; i was so proud of her and she seemed to realise that she was on a 25foot lead as she used the full extent of it!
Anyway my question is how much exercise should she have, she is 13 week
its about 50 foot to the field, ee walked on there for about 10 minutes and then came the longer way back which took about 5 minutes by the time we hd stopped twice for her to meet new people.....i intend to walk her four times a day but don't want to over exercise her
thanks in advance!

Re: First walk!
The general rule of thumb is 5 minutes for each month, so 15 minutes for each walk would be fine at the moment.

Re: First walk!
You can also add some running around or play which doesn't count toward the 5 minute per month rule

Re: First walk!
Yep, piccies!!!!
As already said, the general rule is 5 minutes per month of age on lead walking, and that should be about 3 walks a day (more if you want - your staff will take whatever he can get! ).
Free running & play, though can be added to that as long as the pup has a chance to lay down & rest whenever it needs to.

Re: First walk!
If we go to the right places where the dogs can run free we can make it 1 -1.5 hours a time just having to take them further in the car so the lead walking is short, this way Tilly isn't losing out on the exercise and they get to bound about together like nutters

first walks
Loving getting Buster out walking. He's loving it now he's got his new harness and a Halti 2 metre training lead has made the world of difference to control and comfort for all. Buster prefers a couple of longer walks and mental time in the garden. He's got used to the lead and harness really quickly. My wife thought i was being anal about getting him walking well (he's her first Staffie.) That was until I ran off in front and 11 week old Buster, weighing 6.5kg and solid muscle dragged her protesting to me lol. Laughed my head off and the wife agreed that walking discipline was definitely a big thing. Here's a short clip of Buster walking with my 9 year old daughter.
