Walking dogs on pavements.
All the time i see people with their dogs off lead on the pavement , what are your views on this ? ... My personal thoughts are that even if you trust your dog 100% to walk by your side , something can spook him/her and off the dog darts into the road , it only has to happen the once but the consequences could be disasterous ... On the lead all the time whilst walking on the pavement is my view

Re: Walking dogs on pavements.
I always walk Pixee on lead on pavements, as anything can spook any dog, no matter how well behaved off lead they are.

Re: Walking dogs on pavements.
I agree its not worth the risk. Not that Alfie has any recall, so stays on the lead anyway but our old dog was fine and still kept her on the lead on pavements. Also I think its just good manners in a way. Not everyone likes dogs and some people/children are scared of them, obviously they would like to feel the dog is under control and safe.

Same here it also scares me when I see someone walking along the road with the dog at the full length of an extending lead

Same here, think its a bit irresponsible and unfair on other dog walkers and just who would get it if there dog wandered towards a DA dog?? I ahve come across this loads, it drives me mad and I always have to yell at the owners to be careful around Oz , rant over!

My girls are always on the lead in the streets, they wouldn't trot along by my side like I see some peoples better behaved dogs do

I would always have our dogs on a lead near roads. Just not worth the risk!

Re: Walking dogs on pavements.
damrabbit I hate that too. You often see the dog has gone ahead round a corner a good while before the owner reaches it!! Yes its on a lead but NOT under control if you cant even see it! They have no idea whats round that corner, small child, a DA dog (as Sara said) or even a car backing off a driveway!! Stupid ...and breathe Lol

Re: Walking dogs on pavements.
Never ever have seen a near miss once, a lab off lead spotted Vin and ran straight across the road. Thank god nothing was coming and still to this day the owner has it off lead!!

On the lead here too, even if your dog has 100% recall not all the others you see may have.
