What a Madam lol
Skye is such a madam!! lol .. she literally goes up too vinnie too get a reaction outta him lol .. she will either nip his nose and run off .. growl and paw at his head and when we keep vin with us so she can play on the floor for a lil bit to burn some energy she will run up to him bounce, bark and run off lol!! shes also started nicking his bone which annoys him cuz he goes after it lol! so we have to give him tht back lol.
Anyone elses pup do/did this to the older dog? LOL
Vinnies still a lil too rough with her at the mo so we watch with eager eyes he has thing where he will put his mouth around the middle of her and paw her and obv cuz shes so small it looks worse than it is, cuz his clearly not hurting her or she'd yelp etc.

Re: What a Madam lol
Blondy does this a mobbing type of thing, if she does it let him go after obviousely don't let him be too rough but she got to learn and she might even want him to play. So let him go off settee and see what happens, knicking food is not acceptable when she has the bone or food, never take it from her mouth because this will make her want it more, get her drop and leave/step away from it then pick it up and give it back to him.

Re: What a Madam lol
Saxon does something similar to my cat Bowie. He tries his hardest to get on his nerves, like an annoying little brother. He walks up to Bowie and sits as close as he can without actually touching him. Then he starts lifting up his paw. It looks like that thing that kids do, "I'm not touching you! I'm not touching you!!" Bowie can only take so much of it before he smacks Saxon on the cheek (without his claws out) or bites him on the ear (never hard enough to draw blood). Then Saxon comes running over to me giving me a look like, "Mom! Did you see what Bowie just did!?" Sometimes if Bowie gives him a mean enough look, Saxon will run behind my legs to hide from him, it's really very funny stuff. I'm hoping he'll eventually learn that if he doesn't want to get smacked he should leave Bowie alone.

Our new puppy Winston ( 8 weeks ) steals all Jethro's ( he is 12 ) toys and runs off with them..he was running around the lawn with Jethro's massive big knotted rope.. he is strong! He jumps up onto Jethro's hammock bed while Jethro is lying on it.. Jethro gets annoyed and gets off.. so Winston stretches right out on it and goes to sleep......Poor Jethro! But when they play and roll around on the lawn Jethro is so gentle with him.. you would swear he knows he is a tiny little baby...... We are so proud of our Jethro with how good he is with his new baby brother..

Yes, honestly, we were worried how they would get on to start with, though Jethro is normally really good with other dogs.. but an annoying over bearing puppy is a different kettle of fish! I normally feed Jethro inside so he can eat in peace but I thought I would feed him while Winston was off exploring .. of course Winston came back and tried to stick his head into Jethro's bowl while Jethro was eating. Oh oh, we thought, better have the vets phone number on standby.. this could get ugly.. well Jethro growled and growled and then made this most terrible noise and really bared his teeth.. ..Winston ran away ...we told Jethro though he was a good boy.. he told puppy off... but he didn't lay a paw on him! He really is a lover not a fighter! ( so far anyway!! )

Re: What a Madam lol
We had the same issues with Izzy & Kita, we just had to let them work it out themselves, but it takes a bit of trusting and added to my grey hair population.
Kita growled at Izzy when they met and the for the first 8 or so hours Kita just ignored her. It was about 42 degrees in Adelaide the next day and I had them both inside with me. I used a gate to separate 2 areas of the house so Kita could have some space, but at one point I was taking Izzy out through the laundry and must have left the gate unlatched and Kita came through just as I was opening the inside door and they both got caught behind it. There was a very loud growl and I yelled as well as it freaked me out and I couldn't get to them, but Kita didn't lay a paw on Izzy. I was really upset probably more at my own reaction of yelling at Kita and seriously wondered if we'd done the right thing in bringing home a puppy with my "old" girl being in her twilight years. We'd lost her play mate (JR) and she was really pining, but I wasn't sure if this was the answer anymore.
Later that same day when hubby was home we were all outside and Izzy picked up one of Kita's balls and took off with it, Kita definitely wasn't going to let her get away with it and took off after her. Funny thing was Izzy seemed to predict Kita's every move and was always one step ahead of her. We've struggled to get Iz to leave Kita's ball alone as she only likes one type. The back yard is littered with Izzy's toys and she still steals Kita's ball at least once a day. Sometimes they're playing gets so loud I have to go and check what they are up to, usually Kita is upside down with Izzy standing over her while they both make that awful guttural growling noise. Sometimes I think they are attention seeking as it stops the minute they hear me, hate to know what the neighbours think,

Awww bless him!!, just a case of letting them no the boundries isnt it? .. I was really proud of vinnie today, they had there food bowls in the kitchen togethor eating this morning and we was watching closely, both ate not a peep at the other, then skye went over to vinnies bowl he looked at her then carried on eating, no growling no snapping nothing! VERY proud of him for that.
Dogalogs88 thats what my two are like lol, very vocal when playing lol, but i keep saying to myself they only met saturday they will both calm down in time Vinnie has never hurt skye playing, even when she grabs his face he just clobbers her with his paw or warns her enough.

Re: What a Madam lol
Kelly, they are doing really well if they have only known each other for 4 days. I had to relax and keep telling myself that "they'll sort it out their own way", but you are on "mega-alert" while you worry that something terrible will happen. Dogs seem to have their own way of sorting out whose boss, (but they along with my DH also know who's really "TOP DOG" in our household)
I'm sure Vinne and Skye will work it out, I noted from your profile that there is about 7 months between them, my oldest (now 14yrs) came into our house when our Bull Mastiff was 7 months old as well (they would have been closer in age but the BM ran under the car and broke his back leg at 3 months of age). Sure they were both very placid dogs (def helped), but the one and only time they had a real barney was over the first time I gave Kita a bone. She took hers outside the back area (closed in laundry & garage) and then came back to pinch his. All I heard was a massive "fighting noise". I flew out the back door, took in what was going on and picked up both bones and threw then in the bin, all the while telling them that if they are going to fight over a bone then no-one will have one! Not sure it this was the right thing to do, but they never fought again and while Kita would hide hers the BM never let her have his until he was ready even though she sat and watched and waited, see pics. Give them time and space they will be fine. Lee

Re: What a Madam lol
Thankyou! yhh theyre both only young .. yeea thats when my two get overly excited, if the bones are envolved, i sit watchin them when they have bones, making sure skye stays on her bed with hers and vinnie on his bed with his .. i have no trouble with vinnie he will just sit and eat his but skye likes to run up too vinnie and try and grab his!! lol so i have to grab her put her on her bed with a firm no! and show her her own bone and she'll happily munch away again, but then she does it again lol, shes a madam! lol like shes trying to get a reaction haha!.
Aww youre two dogs are goregous! i hope too see my two like this soon! .. i am been very firm with them both!!! lol.

Re: What a Madam lol
Thanks Kelly, they were the best of friends but unfortunately within two years of these photos the adult parents parted company and Kita & I moved back to Adelaide in South Australia at the end of 1999 (photos were from our house in Townsville, Qld - Feb 1998). I had updates of the "Muggy" (the BM) until late Oct 2000 when the house finally sold, but that was it. I have often wondered, dreamed and fascinated over how my big "gentle giant's" life turned out. I can only pray and hope he had a good one.

Forgot to say that over the last few days while I've been scanning photos to add to this site, it's become a very "bittersweet" walk down memory lane.
So love my 4 legged babies.

I can so relate to that. I scanned some old photos of my horse Carnaby.. got him when he was 5 ..he died at around 27 . Also my last dog I had Kimba ( a corgi cross samoyd ) got him from The Sandy Creek Dog Home in SA... had to get him put to sleep at 12 as he had cancer of the pancreas. The same year my darling old burmese cross cat Boson that I had for 17 years had to be put to sleep as her kidneys packed up ( got her as a wild little kitten dumped at a rubbish tip in NSW ) All 3 above pets came over to WA to live with me when I moved here... I have shed alot of tears over the years I can tell you!! Yes and going through all my old photos was hard!

Re: What a Madam lol
Thanks Kelly
The hardest part is my ex & I had no further contact (I still keep in touch with my SIL, but there are certain things we don't discuss). However they couldn't even find out any further details about Muggins (his full name) after a few years either and I just hoped and prayed he was running around having a good time of it all, which is what I told Kita anyway!!
Vanessa, that must have been so sad, I noted in previous post you and your puppies travel to SA, we must be stalking each other
