possible grass allergy?
right patch is happy as except starting to notice his back end is losing fur and hes itching a lot, even to the point where hes making it bleed
The only time he does this is after hes been out on the grass, it gets really red and sore and it drives him mad
I am taking him to the vets but i just wondered if it sounds like it could possibly be a grass or pollen allergy?

Looking at his pic, does he have thin patches of fur on his head or is it just the light?

Re: possible grass allergy?
Sorry hun, internet problems! Wrote a reply and then it crashed! I asked about his head because Daisy had Demodex after I rescued her and that usually starts on the head/face. I would get the vet to do a skin scrape just to rule it out. Could be a grass allergy then although I would have thought that affects the feet more, but I may be wrong. Seasonal Alopecia starts on the back end but I think thats just hair loss not itching. Hopefully the vets can help/advise. What is he fed?

Re: possible grass allergy?
Our old girl was allergic to grass and came up in lumps filled with blood and fluid . In the end we replaced our lawn with artifical turf and problem was solved. Bella our current Staffie had exactly what you have described and we found out it was mites in the grass at dog training.

Re: possible grass allergy?
I'd give him a rub down with a damp towel when he come in from the garden then dry him off that's way your removing any pollen which may be irritating, you could also try him on antihistamines to settle it down, piriton 1/2 Twice a day should help if it's an allergy. Definitly get the vet to rule our demodex too though for you both.

Definitely vet visit first. My Vinny suffers grass allergies with similar symptoms but not as excessive itching. We find antihistamines help as well as Hayley's method of rubbing down.

Yes a trip to the vets before it gets any worse to rule out any nasties xx
