Crate training for in car?
Hi all, so some of you may know Nico isn't too keen on the car, he can't sit still and gets quite stressed! Thing is I'm just about to pass my driving test( hopefully) and want to be able to take him in the car without someone else to calm him, thinking if trying him with a crate in the boot and his blanket, maybe some treats to make it a more pleasant experience, he's never been in a crate while we have had him, any tips, suggestions?

Re: Crate training for in car?
I know that not every dog likes to be in the car. Maybe you could try to take him for a short drive to a nice park where he can run, have fun. If you continue doing it he will know that car ride = fun. You can show him that car is a good thing.

Re: Crate training for in car?
I've only ever used a crate with daisy in the car not the house. Its worked fine for us. I've always guiven her a little treat when sge gets in so she happily jumps in and waits for her treat
Putting his blanket in is a good idea or even a toy

Re: Crate training for in car?
Never had to use a crate in the car for Vin, I have been lucky. But yes put his blankets and a fave toy and short journeys at first. Hope it works Kellie xx

If you associate the crate with going somewhere fun hopefully he'll learn to like/tolerate it xx

Re: Crate training for in car?
I'd crate train him before using it as you usually would in a home.. Think there's a link to crate training information on here somewhere but if not give me a shout and I'll send you my sheets over, can't link as on my phone sorry! But yeah, crate train first until you've passed.. Over a week to 10 days preferably you don't want him panicking in the car! Then short drives initially to nice places and build up gradually
