Is it my wishful thinking?
Well, is it my wishful thinking? Or does anyone else think and hope that Staffies as a fashion accessory for a certain section of society are becoming "out of fashion" ?

What breeds next? Sure a new designer cross breed will be discovered. Xx

Re: Is it my wishful thinking?
Well it's the muppets I've been thinking of, and I can't help but think from what I've seen locally that less and less muppets are towing around (or being towed by) Staffies, and am hoping that, like Mohican haircuts, it is a fad that has run its course.

It's certainly gone to bigger breeds here the stereotype guys of a certain age seem to have mastiff/boxer/am bulldog types now

Re: Is it my wishful thinking?
Not much lessening here, though I have seen a large amount of huksy/malamute crosses coming through the centre doors for aggression/killing other animals.. It was predicted that they would be another trend dog but the a*sholes generally like their bull breeds..

Re: Is it my wishful thinking?
I have to say around here, I've noticed that there are still a lot of Staff's but the 'type' of owner has changed, rarely now do you see the stereo typical chav with their dog decked out in thick studded leather straining on a leash, stood on a corner with their hood up (lol you know what I mean!) Now I see more families and older retired couples out with staff's and bull breeds in general, it does lift your heart that hopefully the worst is over and the future is looking brighter for such a truly amazing breed.

Re: Is it my wishful thinking?
Staffies are still popular around here too, but not overly soo, I have seen an increase in the husky dog and look alikes and also the American Bull Dog seems to be gaining in popularity too. I saw a gorgeous one in the small park near us just yesterday.

rottis are becoming more popular about here. The fella in town who is seen as a hardlad (you would cross the street to avoid him but hes actually really a nice guy) had satffies but now has two rottis

Re: Is it my wishful thinking?
It's a staffie-strong area around here, so no difference, but spitz breeds (huskies in particular) are getting more popular. It's the 101 Dalmatians syndrome - when that film got popular, people started buying dalmatians. When Marley & Me came out, people started buying labradors. Since Twilight and Game of Thrones came out, people have been buying huskies.

Re: Is it my wishful thinking?
For here, it depends what part of town you're in. It's all weimaraners, dalmatians and bedlingtons round here, with lots of fluffy breeds and spaniels as well. The only other staff we see in this (posh) part of Edinburgh is also from the rescue - she's a lovely elderly female from the dogs' home. However, on the peripheral estates, just outside Edinburgh, there are many staffies, maybe even mostly staffies, often in full regalia, with studs and chains. The rescues may be slightly behind the times with the dogs that they have currently (considering, presumably, that they are trying to re-home dogs that were dumped (or whatever) up to several months (years) ago). However, to be slightly scientific about this, I notice that the biggest rescue in Scotland, the SSPCA (like the RSPCA) has 118 dogs on offer today. Of these, 46% are staffies (ie, 54 dogs). They have a further 20 dogs (17%), many of which look as if they have at least a hint of staffie. So, it is not too big a statement to say that roughly half the dogs in Scotland's biggest rescue are staffies. I dont think the fashion is over yet. It'll be interesting to see what happens in March, when the dog-is-for-xmas people have a clear-out. Maybe then the rescues will be awash with huskies?

Took my two to a different town tonight to meet a new dog who'll be staying with them.
While out, we passed a lady with a Husky and another dog - the Husky went bananas trying to get to my two plus one, pulled the lady off her feet and she went down with a right thud.
Last I saw, the Husky was dragging her on her a**e down the road - she had no chance of getting back up.
Powerful things when they get moving.

Re: Is it my wishful thinking?
Maybe I was jumping the gun and it is too early to tell. I don't know a thing about Twilight or Games of Thrones, but yes there is a new huskie-type around here, which was smacked around the head by his middle-age owner when he jumped playfully (he was only 8 months old) at my dog. Why do people get dogs that they're scared of?
The reason I asked about Staffies is because I have seen SO much less of them in the past few months. Kuchar's two litter brothers have disappeared off the face of the earth (one reportedly for attacking a smaller dog ), and the Staffie puppies I saw around in the summer have also disappeared. Maybe I just miss their walking times, or maybe the owners can't be arsed to take them out when it's cold and wet.

its not a big town I live in anyway, but agreed that there is such drop in the amount of staffies round here, hardly see any atall seems that American bulldogs are the new trend here, them and boxers.

Re: Is it my wishful thinking?
It seems to be huskies around my way that are gaining popularity with the young lads, its such a shame, I love huskies but the ones that are with the young lads/girls are aggressive and I wouldn't want to let Axl anywhere near them I'm praying they don't ruin the huskies name now to be honest.

To be fair I see a quarter of the owners out walking than I did even a month ago, now that it's cold and wet, so that may be it!
But sadly staffs are also cheap to buy generally and therefore disposable to a lot of people.. we used to have people coming in wanting them PTS for the most ridiculous reasons, or just passing them on to another home after a few months, who would then pass them on again. I had one little lady who had 4 homes by 6 months, and then had to grow up in kennels as we couldn't find a home for her!
